I had a scan yesterday at 8 weeks 4 days. The day of my lmp was December 4th but my cycles were short (21 days) and since I used opk I know for a fact that I ovulated on December 11. However I may have implanted late since I got BFNs on dpo 10 & 12 and "felt" implantation on dpo 12. I got a bpf on dpo 15.
Anyways the scan yesterday showed the strong heartbeat, but she dated the baby at 7 weeks 3 days. How can that be?
The most infuriating part is she kept saying that everything was great because my lmp was on December 4, but that's assuming a 28 day cycle and assuming ovulation occurred on December 18. Since I know I ovulated on December 11 that should count as day 14, which puts me at over 8 weeks.
I'm worried about the baby being too small. I was so happy about the heartbeat but I'm worried about something being wrong. I haven't had any bleeding or cramping and so far except for being really tired I have had a smooth ride. Has anyone else measured small? What causes this?
I had the exact same thing at my scan at 8 1/2 weeks, I was told mine was measuring roughly 7 weeks. The doctor said it was nothing to worry about because they all grow at different rates and he said that dating at 8 weeks isn't as accurate as a 12 week scan which is why they usually make you wait until 12 weeks in the UK.
The US tech kept saying "everything's fine, the date I put in the computer gives me 7 weeks a 4 days since your last menstrual period. It's normal that you measure at 7 weeks and 3 days."
I kept saying "yes but the computer assumes I have a 28 day cycle, I ovulated one week not two weeks after my last period". She wouldn't hear it, just kept repeating it was fine.
I am so fed up with medical staff treating patients like moron. Since I got pregnant I got two wrong prescriptions (which would have been dangerous if I had taken them) and lots of fuzzy information. I constantly have to be vigilant and act as my own advocate and it's tiring.
Anyways I left a message for my doctor to try to figure this out. She's a bit of a flake so I'm not sure she'll have anything interesting to say.
I have a midwife appointment in 3 weeks and I'm hoping to have better care through her.
It's hard but my little one also has measured a week small. I know my cycles and I did OPK's religiously. Plus my hubby and I were only together for three weeks in oct-nov for his r&r from afghanistan. I got my +OPK on the LAST day we were together!! That was just good timing!
The doc never seemed concerned about baby measuring small but did have me in every two weeks for viability scans because of bleeding.
My last ultrasound yesterday was 12 weeks.. one pic baby measured 10.6, another 11.4 and another 11.6... and that was my OB/GYN doing the ultrasound. I try not to worry though, as long as the little one has a strong hb then I'm happy!!!
Here's to a H&H 9 months to everyone!
Earlier scans are not reliable for dating the pregnancy. At your 12weeks you will most probs be put forward again. The same thing happened to me with LO put back nearly a week then moved forward.
I was put back 6 days at my scan last week - I also know when I ov'd. But I'm confident that when I have my 12 week scan next week I'll be back on track.
Scans so early are not reliable for dating, don't worry
