Deli meats and pregnancy?

They're fine as long as you heat them up in the microwave and kill everything right? I really want a turkey sandwich!

I thought meats that had been cooked previously are fine like roast beef, turkey, etc? Isn't it just the cured (non-cooked) meats that are the issue like salami, prosciutto, etc?

I'm not sure.. I heard turkey deli meats that you buy in the packages are bad because they can grow listeria and that you should eat turkey off the bird. But I think microwaving it would kill anything harmful.

I think just because they carry a higher chance of carrying bacteria they just tell you to stay away from it as much as possible- only because it's not good for you to have "food poisoning" when your pregnant( i know- duh!) LOL ....

I have been eating hotdogs like crazy and they say the same thing about them!!

in the UK the risk is that low we don't get warned against eating it! But since i read to avoid it online I have been avoiding it like the plague. NEVER been sick off sandwich meat before so chances are I won't get ill this time but still, paranoia!!!

Okay, I just read up a little about listeria. It can be found in uncooked and cured meats and uncooked vegetables & fruit but pre-cooked, ready-to-eat foods can be contaminated with it at the packaging facility. So I guess lots of foods can have it then.
