Worried sick

I have my first midwife appointment tomorrow

I had a bad 1st pregnancy and it's given me a awful needle phobia

I really really don't want my blood taken at the midwife appointment tomorrow but I'm worried the midwife will insist. I'm petrified. There's no way I will sleep tonight.

Anyone else with an awful needle phobia? X

I also had an awful needle phobia but I have come over it after having meningitis and being rushed into hospital! I felt so ill I just didn't care and ever since then I haven't had a problem with needles, but I use to literally have a melt down when the time come and use to have scary feet like the monster of monsters ink!!, could maybe treating yourself after help? Anyone to go with you? If you let your MD know sometimes they can be very reassuring!

I also have a HUGE needle phobia!! I have a history of getting light headed/fainting when I get needles or have my blood taken. I had my pre-natal bloodwork done last Wednesday and came SO close to fainting! Yep-all the signs were there...the lab tech and my OH were talking and after she took the needle out their voices started drowning out, I got sweatly instantlyand everything went white. I came SO close to passing out and I think the lab tech saw how pale I was so I heard her say "this is the most important blood work you will ever do-it's for your baby!" So after some deep breathing I started to regain composure lol, just try to breathe deep and dont look at the needle-look away, and lie down. Don't get up until you feel ok and do so slowly. Hope this helps!

I've just returned from my first mw appointment and she didn't take any bloods, however I need to go to the hospital tO have them taken.

I think practice varies on area and country.

Try not to worry though x

me! i had to get them took yesterday it was horrible! i had to go and get them re done cause i nearly fainted the first time so they had to stop haha. just look away and have a conversation with someone and try your best to ignore what is happening. i know its easier said than done but don't think about it and let yourself get all worked up 'cause then you'll start panicking and going dizzy. I panicked a bit but managed to get through it, it wasn't half as bad as last time. good luck! just keep thinking it will all be over in ten mins!
