Confusion over first MW appointment and scan

After speaking to about 26 different people at 3 different hospitals this morning, I finally found out when my first appointment and official scan will be.

12th March. I'll be 15 weeks. I'm also supposed to be away on holiday that day. I think it will be easier to cancel my holiday than rearrange the appointment.

I'd mind less if I'd been told I'd have to wait this long.

I'd mind less if I hadn't had 2 scary bleeds and wished there had been some continuity of care.

I'd mind less if I'd been told I'd be going to a completely different hospital from the one I chose.

I'd mind less (maybe) if this wasn't my first baby and I was more experienced.

I'm so upset and frustrated and angry.

Has anyone else had this much confusion? I feel so alone.

It's so annoying that ladies in the first few weeks of pregnacey don't get much help and support when it probably when you need someone to talk to the most, I can't even ,ale an appointment to see a midwife untill I am 7 weeks n then iv gotta wait until im 8-10 weeks to be seen, this sis my second so I am a little more relaxed but I think everyone it's gittery and nervous for the first few weeks regardless of weather they have done it before, I understand that it's probably because they are busy but it would be nice to have an initial appointment when you find out just to make sure you have got it right n talk about any concerns xx

I would imagine if you reschedule, they'll have to fit you in earlier, they can't fit you in after your holiday as that would be so late. Other than that it's so frustrating, is that going to be your booking appointment too?

Thanks Pink. You are lucy to be seen so early and more than once in the first trimester. I won't have my first appointment till I'm well into the second!

Yes, it's both. I think it's silly. When's my 20 week scan going to be?

TT, this is really shocking. I'm sorry you've had to jump through so many hoops and it's ridiculous that you'll have had nothing until 2nd tri. Did anyone give any explanation as to why this has been so shoddy?? Lost notes, anything...? Any apology...?

No one has indicated to me that this is unusual! In fact 2 weeks ago I was told to be patient and stop phoning!

I just had a look at my booking in stuff and it says that the early scans should be carried out between 11 and 14 weeks but I would be more concerned about not seeing the midwife until then. You could complain and say that you feel you are being left with very little time to have any screening and or diagnostic tests to be carried and it makes you uncomfortable to think you might make have to make any decisions such as amnio testing so late in pregnancy. I think that's a perfectly valid point and it is unfair to expect mothers to do something like that. Also I think certain diseases like Sickle Cell Disease are normally tested for earlier than that. The mid pregnancy scan should take place between 18-21 weeks according to the literature.

I think I read somewhere that they don't do the 11-13 week nuchal translucency test in Scotland? If that's the case that may be a scan and test you need to seek privately, if you want it.

I that hey do it in Scotland just not Greater Glasgow and Clyde Healthboard.

At the bottom of my booking letter it says...

"Please note that Greater Glasgow and Clyde Maternity hospitals have yet to introduce the Nuchal Translucancy Scan for Downs Syndrome Screening due to in going recruitment to facilitate this."

But they do carry out the blood works but again this is probably something you want done earlier in pregnancy.
