Early scan or not?

I am considering booking an early scan for 7 weeks, its £95 though!! Very very expensive and we dont really have that kind of money spare. Also Im well aware that we could have the scan on Monday but still loose the baby before 12 weeks (sorry not a nice thought) so not sure if its really worth it.

It would make me feel abit more reassured the see babies heartbeat though.

If you haven't got the money to spare, I wouldn't do it! If I had to choose, the only extra scan I would spend money on is a 3d scan later on in the pregnancy! Also, I think it would have to be an internal scan at 7ish weeks (had one when I mc a couple of years a go) and they're not very pleasant........

I kind of see why people want early reassurance scans, but then again, risk of miscarriage is still high early on in the pregnancy regardless of whether you see an embryo on the screen, so it's probably best not to dwell!

if you see a heartbeat at 8 weeks it actually means your risk of miscarriage is reduced to 2-3%, so if you need it for reassurance, it's well worth it...I think 7 weeks is a bit early though, would definitely wait until 8.

I had one at 8 weeks, you don't see much, so if you're after a picture I wouldn't bother, but if it's for reassurance (as in hearing the heart beat) it definitely is worth it. Then again, ours was only £45.

I've managed to convince myself I don't want one... for now. Like you say, even if everything's fine now, it could still go wrong before the 12 week scan, so I think any reassurance I get will be brief, and expensive at the price. And what if we saw something that would lead me to worry more?

For now I have managed to allow myself to let go and carry on regardless. There's nothing I can do either way, and whilst there's a 1 in 6 chance of me miscarrying, there's a 5 in 6 chance that I won't. If it happens, I'll deal with it at the time. But I want to enjoy this pregnancy as much as possible, and I'll be so angry at myself at the 9 month mark if I know I spent 3 of those months petrified of even coughing just incase I dislodge something!

I can't say I'll still be feeling the same by the time I get to 8 weeks, but for now I really don't think that, for the price, it's something that will benefit me. That's not to say it wouldn't benefit you! Though just think how many cute little booties £95 could buy you in 8 months time....

We decided not to go for an early scan this time as we had one last pregnancy and had an mmc at 9 weeks. This time though I'm glad to say everything was absolutely fine we had our first scan yesterday and it was amazing! You can see much more later on little baby was dancing around and sucking its thumb it was so special I can't wait for the next one now! We are definately going to book a gender scan to find out the sex and if money allows I might persuade hubby to go for a 3d scan later in pregnancy!

I had a scan on Tuesday I thought i was somewhere between 6/7 weeks, it was for reassurance as I had a miscarriage at 6 weeks that started new years day and got pregnant again without a period inbetween. They tried doing an external scan they said they could see something but it wasnt very clear as my bladder wasnt full enough! So they did an internal and OMG amazing ! I saw this little tiny baby with a heart beating away. I've never experienced anything like it , so go for it if thats what you want! They put me at 6weeks 2 days and I could see the heartbeating clearly so no need to wait till 8 weeks.

I know it sounds mad, but Ive worked out if my dates are right ive got 52 days until 12 weeks so have brought 50 internet cheapie tests and will use one of those if I feel I need to rather that paying £95 for a scan. Ive tested every day since finding out sunday so if I need to I'll keep testing till im abit more confident.

I wish I could snap out of this downer im on, Im pregnant! This should be the most amazing time but I cant relax

I had a scan at 7 weeks 2 days and cannot recommend it enough. It wasn't an internal scan - just a normal tummy one. We saw the little baby, he was measured and we could see the heartbeat really clearly.

Providing your embryo has a regular heartbeat and is the right size, your risk of miscarriage is a lot lower. To me, seeing that on screen and the reassurance was well worth it and I would have paid double.
