illegal sexing at scans???

I dont know what this is all about but i saw it on "Baby Center"..
I know for a fact the hospital I attend tells you the sex if you would like to know, they just have a sign saying to let the person doing the ultrasound that you would like to know the sex at the beginning of the scan and they will only tell you if theyre certain and they wont go out their way to have a look if babys being difficult, ect. which is fair enough theyre not gonna spend all day looking for sex of your baby when they have other people to see! anyway here it is....
*****************************
Will the scan reveal the sex of my baby?

Ultrasound scans can show the sex of an unborn baby. But it is against the law for hospitals, doctors and sonographers to give you this information. This is because of an alarming rise in female foeticides. All ultrasound clinics and hospitals should display a notice stating that a " sex-determination test is a punishable offence and anybody found violating the law will be prosecuted". It is also an offence for you to ask about the sex of your baby. At most hospitals you will need to sign a document before your ultrasound scan, stating that you will not ask the doctor or sonographer about the sex of your unborn baby

It's not against any criminal law to ask a question...

It's illegal in the UK to have a termination on the basis of sex, but certainly not illegal to ask or be told at a scan. Maybe this info relates to another country or a specific US state?

Baby Center is an American/Canadian website but it is not illegal to ask those sorts of questions. It may be hospital policy but there is no criminal law about it. Not in the US or Canada.

FYI Terminations aren't allowed to be discussed here though, it will be locked if you do.

Baby Center is more entertainment then factual info I find, some of the emails they send are just ridiculous

AH FOUND IT

This is from Baby Center's Indian sister site.

So yes, I could believe this one for sure, female infanticide is a serious issue there.

Definitely sounds like a load of gibberish to me. I mean according to that you could get a criminal record for asking a perfectly simple question? Talk about scaremongering!

A girl at work who's a few months ahead of me recently found out she was having a girl so I highly doubt there's any truth in it, at least not in the uk anyway.

Edit: just read aliss' post, yes that would make perfect sense!

Still can't believe its an offence to even ask what the gender is over there though. What if someone was unaware that just asking was illegal and was just curious, would they be charged for it?
