Yoga during the 3 trimesters?

Hi Everyone,

I am coming up to 5 weeks so just an ickle bit pregnant. I have practiced yoga on off for a few years and had recently got into it again a few times a week when i found out I was pregnant. Had a little bit of cramping so far but nothing worrying- however I have had 2 MC in the past 2 years and this is my first so I want to be super careful with everything.

Anyone practicing yoga or can give me advice on practicing from the 1st trimester. I know there are things I should be careful about with yoga later in the pregnancy but I'd love to get into a routine now as I feel it can really help me during pregnancy and labour.

thanks for any replies and hope everyone in 1st trimester is feeling amazing xx

Hi Erin,

I am no expert at all but i have found a pregnancy yoga class right near where I live and you can't sign up until you are 12 weeks gone so I'm not sure if that is a general indicator or not!

Thanks Flutterly, yes I am really keen to get to a pregnancy yoga class once I'm passed 1st trimester too but a way to go yet! Time seems to be going so slow...

I am reading up about it a bit online so will see if there are poses i can do now that are safe enough for 1st tri.

good luck with everything xx

Thanks for that. I think I am going to look for one too. I just want to feel active yet relaxed and yoga has always given me that. i just do not want to sit on my behind for 3 months then start exercising in the 2nd tri as it will be harder when I haven't been moving for a number of weeks.

Good luck with everything and thanks for the message xx

Hey, I do yoga/pilates for an hour everyday as well as 30 mins walking and am in third tri and everything is fine and dandy. Any exercise you did pre-pregnancy there is no need to alter your regime in the first tri. I used to do 40 mins intensive crosstrainer/treadmill a day too but have stopped that towards the end of 2nd tri.
Hope that helps.

^^^ wss.

I have been practicing yoga for over 5 years now. I am also a runner, and have done a lot of high-intensity workouts all my life.
I have eased off on the high-intensity stuff, but I still run, I still do yoga and pilates. Your body and mind need it!

I have a few prenatal yoga DVDs but my fave is Rainbeau Mars-Zen Mama. She is really chilled out.

I switched to pregnancy yoga as soon as I got a BFP.
