high hcg and early bfp ... twins??

Hi I recently found out im expecting ... i done a home test that came back positive immedialty...and i dont a clear blue conception indicator that came back immediatly as a 3+ meaning i was around 5 to 6 weeks pregnant.. this was 4 and a half nearly 5 weeks ago... i had my 1st ultrasound today showing only one baby @ 6wks 3 days!!!!!! how is this possible?? i would have been only around 2 weeks pregnant and indicating 3+ on clear blue... im very confused. me and my partner were sent out the sonographers room...i get the impression she felt i was a time waster as at my hospitol they prefer first scan to be 12wks... anyway...we sat down n my oh said 'you indicated high hcg in the 1st 2 weeks enough for clear blue to 3+ yet the babys still very small... what if you are further on and baby is not growing properly... so i asked the sonographer quikly (she didnt have much time for us_) .. if it was possible baby was not growing properly... she said baby and sac etc all measured 6wks 3 days so its a healthy normal pregnancy for this gestation appears to be fine ( i also told her i got a bfp at around 1 week pregnant and she screwed her face up like im a lier)!! then i had my 5 min with the midwife and said to her i was showing high levels of hcg when i was bearly even pregnant.. 3+ on cleaer blue is 2000+ or more hcg i had this in week 1 almost 2... and im worried about baby maybe not growing... she said high hcg indicates usualy multiple or something wrong but my pregnancy appears fine and was not showing multiples...she agreed clear blue are quite reliable and maybe i just have high hcg... i have a lo who is 7months and my clear blue with him indicated 3+ when i was 6 weeks pregnant with him! so this one somehow is not on target and i am VERY CONFUSED AND WORRIED... midwife assured me the sonographer is the best they have shes does her job good and she would not miss a twin....however the min she saw how early on i was she just ushered me out the room like a time waster... i dont feel she looked properly and i dont think readings of 3+ @ 1 to 2 wk pregnant are normal. dont get my next us untill 25th aprill its over 30 says away!!!! can anyone shed light on this mess im in please. many thanks lucy

When you're two weeks pregnant you're just ovulating. They count two weeks before ovulation. You don't find out you're pregnant until 4-5 weeks. The scans are pretty much right on so you're about 6-7 weeks. You may have ovulated earlier than you thought which is why you're measuring ahead with higher hcg. What were your betas/levels? Oh and the clearblue estimator isn't always right. It just measures hcg, and some womens hcg doubles a lot faster than 48 hours (like mine, mines every 27-28 hours), so the estimator would be off. Congratulations btw! xx

i was no more than 20 dpo when i done my test and clear blue... so if i am only 6 wkks and 3 days according to hospitol....then hypothetically i was only 2 weeks pregnant when i tested but in that case as you are saying id have been medicaly 4? im onlty 6 now and my hcg was thru the roof 20dpo... it was more than 2000+ but i cannot specify the real amount as clear blue doesnt indicate it... it just seems alot.even the sonographer rolled her eyes when she done ultrasound and said when did you find out i said 5 weeks ago...she smirked and rolled her eyes like i was lying.. i knew straight away.. midwife also said clear blue are very reliable with the whole 1-2 2-3 3+ thing... no way at 20dpo should i be giving off a 3+ reading...

If she looked around and was really sure there was only one baby, and she said the baby is growing well then I guess chances are you are both OK. If you have a niggling feeling that it's twins then I would mention it at the next scan. Some early scans do miss the other twin. It is rare, but not impossible.

I tested positive 5 days before my missed period! That has never happened to me before, and it made me start wondering about twins, especially as I have always 'known' the sex of my three previous pregnancies and this time I am feeling both!

Your instincts are strong in pregnancy!

If you were 20 DPO 3+ would make sense because you have to add 2 weeks before O because they dont go by your O date they go by when you had you period.. Was going to say also I was pregnant with twins and it was clear as day it was twins

That's how the doctors figure it out. You're technically pregnant before you're actually pregnant. It's strange lol. That's why they ask you when your last period was.. to figure out your EDD. Sometimes you can ovulate earlier/later causing your dates to be off a little bit.

The CB measures from conception date (which you'd be 2 weeks). So when you got that your levels were about average for 7 weeks. That's all an estimate though, oh and btw a high hcg level can mean it's a girl!
