Confused 12 week dating scan

Hi ladies

I'm hoping someone can explain this to me.

My LMP was 5th Jan. I definitely o'd on the 18th Jan. so my due date is the 12th October

I went for my 12 week scan yesterday and was told I am not 12+1 I am 13. But then that is way out for my dates that makes my LMP 30th December and conception around the 12th which isn't possible as the BDing is too far from that date.

So now my due date is the 5th October.

How can this be, maybe I just have a long baby!! Lol

Everything was perfect with little shrimp though which is the main thing. I just want him or her to get here!!

Thank you.

EDD's are only what they say an estimate, it's impossible to ever know an exact due date as only 5% of babies arrive on their due date anyway. One thing no one knows is when implantation takes place even if you know when you ovulated and LMP. It may be that you implanted early or may just be that baby is ahead with development. I wouldn't worry about it too much, it'll probably change again at next scan but will roughly be the same!

Same thing happened to me with #1. I knew my exact ov date from OPKs and temping...and still they put me forwards 1 week. DS must have been a fast grower as he then arrived 4 weeks before their date and 5 weeks before mine at 6lbs 6oz with no issues whatsoever!

The Dating scan is just an estimate... if baby has grown more than the average for a 12 week baby they will show older as in weeks...

I had about 5 scans for my oldest and every single one he was never the right amount of weeks/days that he should of been... I had the EDD changed several times and he was 8 days overdue lol x

The same exact thing happened to me this week! I was 8+1 from my LMP but the baby was measuring 9 weeks, which means conception took place before I even O'd or before we'd had sex that cycle! Makes no sense to me either but I am waiting to see what my next scan says in a few weeks.

this is so interesting. i guess there is a range for the measurments they take to date the pregnancy and you are measuring at the high end. hmmmm. I wonder what mine will show then! My doctor just added 2 weeks to my ovulation date and called that the first day of my last mentural period because i have such long, irregular cycles. it would be great if i am a week ahead, but i understand what you mean, it wouldnt make sense in my case either as there was no other sex remotly before or after the time we conceived! hehe. oh well, as long as everything looks good. and its only an esitmate as other posts have said.

Yes, and most women rarely give birth on their due date anyway! The only reason I may talk to my doctor about it after my next scan is because 6 days makes a difference in being induced or not. And I really don't want that!

You're probably just having a big baby, I'm really surprised they changed your due date as scans can be pretty off and aren't as accurate the farther along you are. My son always measured 2 weeks ahead, at the end he measured a month ahead of his due date.. and was born a week late, he was just huge (10lbs) Lol

Alot of peoples due dates get changed- I am about 1/2 week ahead of what my ticker said and origional dates were. But everytime I go to my US's they say I am measuring 4 days ahead. Right now in this stage a few days dont really make too much of a difference. I am keeping my original due date.
