I know exactly what you mean, a good friend of mine had a MMC, and I think knowing someone who has been through that does make you more aware of the risk.

I have a midwife appt tomorrow...most of my symptoms have disappeared, I'm worried for sure and will be until my scan, but I also know there's nothing anyone can do about it. And as all the others say, it is very rare, so maybe the best approach is to try to relax and enjoy being pregnant but be aware that you are prepared for the worst.

MMC are so rare that they only account for 1% of all MCs. So if you are worried about a MMC, that should put your mind to rest.

My SIL had a MMC in December so I am kinda worried too it could happen to me but at the same time know that just because it happened to her by no means mean it will happen to me. My other friend had an ectopic so naturally I was worried about that too. I think I will feel much better at my 8 week appt on Friday when they hear the heartbeat. I am just trying to stay positive and remember just because it happened to my SIL/friend doesn't mean it will happen to me...hopefully!

oh_so_blessed, I literally just experienced the same thing. When I told my bestfriend I was pregnant she confessed she was also pregnant, just a week ahead of me! She had yet to tell anyone. Well, yesterday she called to tell me "it is all up to you and your little one now, my baby stopped growing at 8 weeks". She is being so strong but I am devastated!!! And now so scared for my baby I am so sad for her and can't stop thinking about the same thing happening to me

This is terrible, if it's so rare the why do all of us have friends that have gone through it? Ugh!

I know, no help in worrying, but really, it seems perhaps it isn't all that rare. Maybe it just doesn't get reported properly by the OBs.

I should of noted...My SIL is the only one I know who has had a MMC. All my other friends, cousins and sister have had healthy happy pregnancies so just try to think of all the people you know too that have had healthy happy pregnancies to help ease your mind.

Well, we all have a lot of friends, who have had a lot of pregnancies...so it's statistically likely for many of us to have a friend or two who have had a MMC. Also, this thread is probably catching the attention of people who DO have friends who have had them -- those who do not have any experience with this probably are not reading or responding as much, so we are not hearing from them.

Well, I can't agree on the first point, but on the second point that surely makes sense.
