Do you mind if I ask what helped you to quit smoking...besides knowing you're pregnant of course. I am 5 weeks today and am ashamed to say I have not been able to quit completely YET. I have cut back as far as I can at the moment and am going for acupuncture starting Tuesday. Just need some advice/support from someone who understands.
Hope you don't mind, I had to chime in -- I just quit 3 years ago after smoking a pack a day (or more! eek!) for 10 years. I had tried quitting SOO many times (as most smokers do) over the years but had never been successful. The final 'quit' was still one of the hardest things I've ever had to do in my life! So what was different that time, you ask? My desire! I know it sounds simple, but there it is. I also found that nicotine gum was a lifesaver -- it gave me something to 'give in to' when the cravings hit hard, but kept the cigs at bay. I also realized aside from the nicotine addiction, the oral fixation was a big issue and the gum helped that as well.

Good for you for cutting back as much as possible and I hope you find the desire you need to quit for good and/or find that the acupuncture works (always wanted to try that!). Remember: you can do this and your sweet baby will reward you with a lifetime of priceless memories for it!

Well because she said epidurals are way more dangerous than drinking wine . Home births are dangerous too (not knocking them i was born on the bathroom floor in my parents house) the way things were worded made me feel as if she was saying you people are rediculous for being so careful, but look at all the good stuff i do and if you get an epidural you're throwing caution to the wind anyway. It just felt judgemental in a hypocritical way

Yeh that doesn't seem quite right to me... I don't agree with your doc in this case. Epidurals randomly given for no reason outside a hospital setting - maybe a little more dangerous LOL.
I think you can tell I'm against alcohol in pregnancy and I'm going to stand by it.

Were you born on the bathroom floor intentionally? Hehe

I also just hate it when women treat other women who chose epidurals as if were lazy idiots. My doctor gave me things to read about the risks and benifits of an epidural, i read other things about epidurals and before you get an epidural they have you read and then go back over the risks and benifits and sign a consent. Yes i understand epidurals. Its not like if they give you a flu shot they just stick the needle in you and your done.

Holy crap I think I love you. My Mum has been saying to me "you're not going to be a real woman if you have an epidural - that's the weak way out". I haven't said anything to her yet but I have the feeling I soon will...

I also am familiar with risk benefits and will be keeping an open mind. If I get there and find I don't need it - then yay! But other than that I'm completely looking forward to some pain relief hehe.
