I read on the department of labor website that pregnancy can not be considered a preexsisting condition. I am in Texas. I think I may make to much money to qualify for Medicaid. Does anyone know the requirements?

I do you being pregnant qualifies you for medicaid. You cannot pay for those hospital bills yourself hun. It just will not be full time medicaid

I should qualify for insurance with my company in 3 months. I think I will go ahead and just pay for the cobra. If something happened I would be so upset if I had not. My S/O will help pay for it. Its just going to be expensive for a few months. :/

I was going to say this! I know if you have insurance that doesn't cover maternity you still qualify for medicaid to cover just the pregnancy related items which would include anything that might happen in the event you need to be hospitalized.

Keep reading. They cannot deny you coverage, but they can make you wait 12 months with no pregnancy before your benefits kick in if you have a lapse in coverage. Medicaid had 2 different programs. Medicaid for pregnant women does not look at your assets but there is an income limit (usually around 2,000/month for pregnant women but varies by state). There is also what is called medically needy medicaid or shared cost medicaid. This is for anyone NEEDING medical care (cancer, pregnancy, etc.) There IS NO income limit for it, but you are assigned a deductible on a sliding scale. It is really hard to find Drs to accept shared cost because billing is a nightmare.
Check here to see if you qualify:

When I was pregnant with DS I was at a job that I didn't really want so I went back to my old job I was about 12 weeks pregnant and I called the insurance company cause I was worried about going onto insurance being pregnant and thinking they would consider it a preexisting condition but according to them as long as your getting insurance through an employer pregnancy can never be a preexisting condition. So you could probably wait the couple months, if I were you I probably would gamble but I'm cheap!! I think I was not insured for a couple weeks when I was pregnant.

Perhaps you can pass on having the early ultrasound done. This would save you a LOT of money. My eldest is 6 and when i was pregnant with him early ultrasounds weren't the standard.
The ultrasound is "fun" for sure and it gives some piece of mind. But if there was something wrong the ultrasound cannot fix it. And if it were bad enough that they know the baby's not viable it would only give you a heads up on a miscarriage that would occur anyways.
Perhaps it could tell you if there's a serious but non-fatal condition, which would result in you choosing to abort?
At 10wks they should be able to hear the heart beat with a doppler.

It sounds like you're pretty set on having it done and are ready to pay for it. Which is great. I just wanted to throw this option out there because most people don't realize that they can make their own decisions in these matters rather than just following the standard or what they're told to do.

Be careful and don't let your insurance lapse. You might be stuck with a 'preexisting condition' clause and have none of your pregnancy covered. I'd get the COBRA.
I was just going to say this. It's rediculous but a lot of insurances consider pregnancy a pre-exipre-existing condition and won't cover it if you were already pregnant when you got the insurance so watch out and look into that first. It happened to my sil but luckily she was able to qualify for Medicaid for the pregnancy.
