BMI of 47, BFP...aagghh I am so worried!!

Hi everyone...I wanted to start this thread as I just got my BFP on Weds, and the fears have already started lol.

This is my 1st pregnancy and it was our second attempt of AI. I still cannot quite actually believe it's real

My problem is...I am worried about my weight. I haven't yet made an appointment with my GP as I am worried what he will say to me, will he call me irresponsible? Stupid for wanting something so bad? I am quite fit for my weight, and even went on a short (very short) bike ride last week...nearly killed me, but I managed to do it lol. I have lost 5lb in the last 2 weeks (without trying) and hoping that more falls off!

The food part I am struggling with though, although it is good that I am not craving sweets/chocolate, I am very hungry very regularly at the moment. I can eat a meal, then 2 hours later feel like I haven't eaten at all!! Madness! I am trying to snack on crackers and veg...but I seem to be craving salt (which isn't good)

I just want to know if anyone has been in a similar situation to me? What did your GP say? Did you have any problems with other healthcare professionals? My OH was a nurse, and is assuring me that everything will be fine...but I am worried now...will my heart be OK? Will the baby be OK? Oh lord...I am doing nothing but worry...i have already had a few dreams that I started bleeding!

Hey. Don't be worried! My best friend is a larger lady and she's on her second! I think it means u'll have to be consultant led rather than midwife but that's ok. Congratulations on ur BFP!!

I'm sure there r others who will be able to give u more details than me, I just didn't wanna read n run!

As long as you eat healthily and exercise fairly regularly (say 30 mins of walking a day) and keep your body healthy and fit, I dont see it being a problem.

I know ladies of all shapes and sizes that have carried babies no problem.

When I was in school, my childminder (who was HUGE) became pregnant. She was so big that she didn't start to really show until right near the end of it, or at least that's how I remember it being. She had a perfectly healthy little girl

I'm technically obese, BMI of 34 (UK size 16 or thereabouts) and though I was told to lose weight in order to get pregnant, here I am.

I think I'm lucky really, I lost my appetite almost completely 2 weeks ago and people have told me I look like I've lost weight - but I know that our LO is healthy because there's been plenty of me for it to feed from, even if I've been unable to eat. Getting the appetite back, gradually... we'll see where we go from here

Please don't worry - as long as you are healthy in yourself, you should be fine. Talk to your GP about things you may need to be wary of, but don't let them condescend to you about your weight.

hugs!

BMIs have limitations as well. My brother's BMI is like 32 but he body builds and his body fat is very small. It is a tool to assist. I would just ask your MD about a light to moderate workout during pregnancy. Congratulations, take care of yourself and try not to worry!

Hi I'm BMI of about 32 and have been worried what doctors will say. I've been on metformin as I have PCOS and have trouble losing weight. I'm currently 13st 9lbs. I've been trying to walk 30 mins or so a day and eating as well as I can...fingers crossed we'll all be fine, good luck with your appointment

I think my bmi is 30. They don't class u as needing consultant care until ur bmi is 35. Which mine will be by the time this pregnancy over
