^^ That made my stomach rumble!!!

I've been on a low carb diet for 3 months but I've read so much conflicting advice about Low Carb and pregnancy A few reports said that Low Carb caused ******ation So I've done a complete U-turn and gone back to eating a variety that includes carbs Unfortunately my body HATES carbs and i've gained 6.5lbs of bloat in 1 week!! Argh!!!!

I think as long as you're not doing purely protein and have your veg in there too it should be fine. My understanding was that plenty of protein was a good thing- makes sense since amino acids are our building blocks. If you want carbs that are not going to cause the bloat I would say just cut out the gluten, have sweet potatoes instead of white ones, have roasted parsnips and carrots.....things like that. There's a lot of crappy carbs about that do nothing but give calories. I'm pretty sure as long as you're not sending your body into ketosis protein is fine.
That was the problem - getting out of Ketosis - My body was very keto adapted so even going mildly lower carb my body wanted jumped straight back into ketosis... So i've done a week much higher carb and now i'm going to cut out the bread, flour, sugar etc and hope that will slow my weight gain down ! My body is def. not in Ketosis any more (i have test sticks) and i'll keep a close eye on it ... but as i'm still very overweight (BMI 40 ) I'm very aware that i'm a prime candidate for GD... keeping to a lower carb count should help and gaining as little weight as possible too. All whilst feeding this tiny little miracle inside of me ... ... ... anyone else feel like they know too much about what can go wrong? Ignorance must be bliss

Yip ignorance would definitely be bliss. I would really recommend you get Anna Richardson's body blitz diet book by the way (it's on Amazon). Not to follow to the letter but more for the recipes- she seems to strike the right balance between really good carbs and protein. None of her recipes contain wheat and it's all very wholesome and clean. No dairy also forms part of her diet but I'd skip that rule during pregnancy! Anyhow, the recipes are really nice and tasty. And she makes some really good suggestions for healthy snacking too.

I was on a low carb diet as well, and over the last 2 years I had lost 55 pounds. I meant to keep it going and just add a little extra fruit on the recommendation of the nurse at the OB's office I had spoken to. She said that my diet sounded very healthy, like a diabetic's diet. However, when the MS hit, all of that was out the window. I have major food aversions. The only things I have been able to put into my mouth without wanting to gag and die are white carbs. I have gained 7 pounds! I eat all the time, because it seems to help with the horrid nausea. I am so ready for 1st tri to be over. I miss my healthier eating and I am dreading gaining anymore weight. I have been able to start walking again at least, but these 7 pounds were the hardest to lose, and they will be stubborn again once the baby is here. I can only hope that the breast feeding will go over well and help me lose!

I understand about the worry of putting on to much wedight. With my first i put on almost 55lbs. When i got home from the hospital i had about 25 to lose. It sure was tough to get off but i tried really hard to eat healthy and use baby as a weight to help burn more calories. He thought it was fun ..
like mellyboo i would eat the get sick and eat again however i didnt choose healthy the second time around. This pregnancy even when i want something unhealthy i try to find a healthier choice. I try to keep healthy quick snack foods around i like a lot of the special k snacks. I also try to eat a high protein breakfast. Usually its a fried egg on wheat toast so i dont feel hungry in an hour. Snack: a 100 calorie snack Lunch is sandwich on either wheat or rye bread with some fruit. Snack usually its a special k snack. Dinner some kind of grilled chicken salad and a veggie..
