Is it normal for your doctor not to refer to midwife due to bleeding?

I guess this is a question for all those unlucky ladies who have had early bleeding. I saw my doctor 3 weeks ago, he was absolutely clueless what to do as I had been bleeding 4 weeks and had a bfp. I had to tell him it was normal to be referred to the epu which he did but didn't record my pregnancy at all, last time I had a form to fill in and sign and was told my midwife would be in touch. This time nothing. If all is ok in my scan today do I need to return to the doctor or can the epu get you in touch with a midwife? Fills you with confidence when you see your doctor in his 50's message another saying he has no idea what to do! X

The epu should make a file of it to pass on to your mw, it will be on the system, after the scan they should give you a copy of what is being sent to your mw of their findings.
Have you had your booking in or first appointment with a mw?
in most cases the dont have much to do with the mw just leave them to read for themselfs on your files

In my experience, the epu, doctors, midwives and hospitals don't always share information. I got dh to ring around about a week or so after I'd mc'd to make sure all my appts had been cancelled and no one had any idea what had happened.

Appointments are slightly differant as they woyldnt have need to read your notes on file till the appointment comes up and your sitting there so no one would be aware till the appointment if that makes sense

my epau you can actually call in yourself to arrange your own appointment (mental i know!) but at bradford you cant (i go to dewsbury district) because its a busier city hospital, and the level of care you receive is fantastic. Maybe he didnt wanna make arrangements until your scan shows all is well as it is alot of paperwork for midwives etc, (i was told this with my 2nd pregnancy that you must wait until 8 weeks at least as that is when the miscarriage%drops and it saves alot of paperwork)

I really hope everything is ok for you and the ball gets rolling after today, the epau should send off the paperwork to the midwife and or GP, id call in a few days time to make sure they received it so it all gets started x

Thanks for your replies!

Candyapple, thank you that is just what I needed to know! I had a feeling he did nothing as if anything had gone wrong it would be a waste of everyone's time doing paperwork, appointments etc. I never had a booking appointment until 10 weeks last time so didn't expect anything yet anyway. Was just concerned I may have to go back to my doctor that's impossible most of the time to get a appointment for! Thanks again xxx
