Heartburn and reflux

Am 9 weeks today and in the past week my nausea has improved but I'm getting bad heartburn at night. Was on lanzoprazole for reflux before I got pregnant but stopped taking it when I conceived. Knew this was likely to be a problem and Dr says I can go on Ranitidine if I need to but I would prefer not to, at least in first trimester.

If anyone can suggest any natural remedies I would be very grateful!

No solutions from me. But I'm a sufferer of bad heartburn, too. So I sympathize.

Can you put bricks under the end of your bed to raise it? Then gravity helps keep the acid where it belongs (pillows are not as good). Also some foods might make your heartburn worse, have you tried keeping a diary see if you can identify trigger foods? And make sure you don't eat anything heavy too close to bedtime.

Thanks sproglet! My reflux is because the valve at the bottom of my oesophagus doesn't close fully. Dr said it would prob get worse as the baby grows and pressure increases. Will give the bricks a go! Used to have cookbooks under my mattress before I got married. Guess it will discourage my hubby from hogging my side of the bed in the middle of the night!!

I have the same but suffer more reflux than heartburn, doc thinks it's a hiatal hernia but hasn't done any investigations (he says treatment is the same regardless of the cause). Have you tried Gaviscon Advance? It can safely be taken in pregnancy, and alongside most other heartburn meds, as it works differently (forms a barrier over the stomach contents rather than reducing acid).
