Spotting at 13 weeks

Hi Ladies,

I'm 13+2 and started spotting yesterday. It's very light, reddish brown in color. I usually spot 2 days after DTD, but we haven't done that since Sunday. I had a subchorionic hematoma at my 7W ultrasound, but by 12W it was gone. I don't have cramps, but I do have some intermittent discomfort (like gas or a pulled ligament) and a feeling of heaviness. I got scared last night when I noticed the spotting and got my Doppler out: baby was fine, 130 BPM.

I just called my OB and I'm waiting for him to call me back, but in the meantime I'm panicking a bit. The only recent notable things that might be related:

-I've had to jog a couple of times in the last two days to catch a bus
-three days ago I started taking 1 clove of raw garlic daily to naturally treat a sinus infection--garlic is a natural blood thinner
-four days ago I started having a small cappuccino in the mornings (safe dose, less than 120 mg)

Does anyone have a clue what it could be? Placenta previa? My placenta was well-placed at my 12W ultrasound, but could it have moved?

I've been going through this the past week. They can't find the cause but so far our baby is fine...I hope they figure out what's causing yours soon.

The garlic is just a single clove a day--same as would be used in cooking any pasta dish. The only difference is that it's raw, which is safe in pregnancy according to a number of sources.

My OB called me back and he wants me to come in on Monday, so I won't know until then. I don't see any more spots since the ones this morning, so that's a good sign. I was just especially worried about a detached placenta or placenta previa since I know that the baby is fine and can't think of any other explanation for the bleeding. Another thing I thought is that I've been a bit... plugged up... recently, and I've read on a few sites that that can make the cervix bleed :/

Thanks for replying, girls. Sandrass--hope your spotting resolves itself!

Have you been coughing a bit recently? I ask because I know coughing can stretch and pull and irritate your cervix and can cause a bit of spotting.

Good luck, hope everything works out fine for you and baby.

Yes, I have. This sinus infection is migrating down into my lungs

Definitely not TMI. I had one a few days ago that wasn't necessarily...difficult, but just very voluminous (running out of neutral adjectives for describing poop quality and quantity). As soon as it was 'free,' I got this shooting pain near my belly button and near where my legs meet my abdomen, like everything had quickly rearranged itself now that the geometry had been altered. Yeesh. Didn't think anything of it at the time except OUCH. Now I'm worried that something tore or prolapsed
