Budgeting - What's Essential?

So I'm getting to the stage now where once we have had the first scan in two weeks I want to start buying some bits (exciting!). I'm at a bit of a loss as to what we'll need in for the early weeks. Could anyone give me some advice. I know the obvious large bits such as a cotbed and stroller etc but what else will we need? Does anyone have their own spreadsheet etc? What's on your list?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, still overwhelmed by all the preparation we'll need to do!

I'm not much of a help but I'm looking forward to everyone's answers! One thing I have been doing is picking up odds and ends a little at a time (even things like shampoo, lotion, etc.) to make the financial burden a little easier toward the end of the pregnancy! Congrats!

That's quite a good idea actually, I've been spending so long looking at big purchases I hadn't really considered I could start picking up small things like that.

Hoping for some good replies too, I'm utterly lost with it all!

That is a fairly good essencials list however there are things you can even cut out of that list!

Some people will opt not to use a moses basket and put LO straight into a cot.
My baby monitor has a room thermometer on it a BT250 and I'm sure some others do too.
Again if cash is tight you can skip the baby bath, lots of people find them to be a faff. I used mine only because it was a sit on the bath type.
Don't buy too many nappies 1 or 2 packs of diffrent types incase some don't suit your LO. My smurf just doesn't fit huggies.
I've yet to use my comb and it's only now Smurf has enough hair to warrent brushing it.
Never had clippers used a set of baby sissors or a nail file or bite them which is a whole lot easier than going near his fingers with anything sharp.
I could easily have got buy without a bouncer LO would never sit in it for more than 5 mins.

Good luck with your pregnacies and hope you find my comments helpful

I started weeks ago, just buying the odd bits that was on special offer or in the Poundshop..

Things that I will be buying is what I know baby will need and not what I want.

I will be breast feeding and using/making my own re usable nappies.

pram
Small changing bag for nappies
Wipes
Bath support seat to use in normal bath
Bath towels
Johnsons toiletries
Changing mat
Mosesbasket and stand to use overnight next to bed
Baby sleeping bags better than blankets in my eyes
Carseat
Clothes
Wardrobe
Cotbed

Even the Cotbed you could buy around six months or later... It isn't a must have thing to have for when baby arrives
