Hey there,

So sorry to hear that you've had such a terrible day. I can't imagine what it must be like for you. Big

I'm in a similar boat as you with the emergency scan. I went for a scan last Weds as I'd been having spotting and cramps for 2 weeks... I only found out that I was pregnant last week though! Just thought it was my period. I have struggled with irregular periods and short luteal phases. I know that I concieved on 9th Jan, but they are dating my pregnancy from LMP which was 14th Dec. They just won't listen, so I know its very frustrating! On the scan they could see the gestational sac, but confirmed that because they could see that it wasn't ectoptic. They didn't do any blood tests (which I thought was a bit wierd) and have scheduled me in for another scan next Monday. I found this info online and thought it might be of interest and some comfort to you

The later the scan, the more that can be seen:

• At about five weeks, (three weeks after conception) it may be possible to see a small empty pregnancy sac

• At six weeks a yolk sac can be seen, and sometimes - but not always - a heartbeat may be visible

• By seven weeks the embryo will be about 1 cm long, and the heart rate will be about 150 beats per minute

• At eight weeks the embryo will measure 16 mm, and you might be able to make out the head and body, and some movements

• At nine weeks the head, body and limbs can be seen, and it's looking more like a baby. It's very nearly fully formed, and will then be known as a fetus

Be strong hon.

I echo the above. I thought I was at least 6 weeks PG by the time I went for a scan. I went for one due to be having endo and my tubes at last inspection weren't in the best shape.
She tried a regular scan, and that didn't work so I ended up with the probe (yuk). Any hoo, they saw the sac and then she said that I would have to go back a week later as I only looked about 5 weeks and sometimes it's so hard to see the flutter of a heartbeat. She moved the probe a bit, and as it came back into focus my mum spotted the tiniest flicker. The sonographer confirmed it and everything was OK and I didn't need to go back. I think the same have happened with you on your scan.
It's early days hun, at least the sac is in the right place. I understand how awful it must have been today, and for that I send you
Please, please try not to worry. I have a feeling all will be well.

Hope things work out for you hun. At 7wks my baby only measured 5mm which was apparently normal. And i used to be irregular too. . .but i concieved when i was due on. Don't know how but i was sure on the date of my last period so from my scan it showed i was only 12wks and not 14 which was what i thought i was. X

hope dance. What a horrible experience hon. I was really hoping that this would be good news for you today. I was checking in and missed you, and now I just saw this thread. Made me so sad.

Hon - I know the uncertainty is terrible, and so traumatic. I have not experienced the abuse you have as a child and yet going through a scan and internal exam when the doc did not find what they were looking for was so so so horrible.

Honey - we are all here for you. You really have been on my mind all day. I'm still hoping for the best for you
