Help - negative urine test at GP?

Hi ladies,

So I found out on sunday i am VERY newly pregnant, like only 4-5 weeks I believe. I did two different tests, both in the afternoon, one was a FRER then I did a clearblue digital because I was skeptical - both positive straight away!

I went to the doctor this morning and he asked me a few questions (bear in mind this is my first pregnancy ever, so have no idea what to expect!!) and then handed me a cup and told me to go wee in it. I was like umm ok, I don't really need to go, I just went but I'll TRY! So i sat there, and managed to squeeze a little bit out.

Anyway off he went and then came back to the office and said, well my test was negative. So referred me for a blood test which i went and had immediately because now I am so confused and freaked out. I really want this baby, and I don't understand how I could get two positives on two different brands from two different wees.

Have to wait 2 days for blood results now. Has this happened to anyone and they still ended up being pregnant?

Maybe you had dilute urine! What time of day was it? Also, if it was later in the afternoon it might be too low of HcG this early. First morning urine is best.

I hope it is just a poorly timed test *HUG*!

If they used a medical pregnancy test, they are lass sensitive. By quite a bit actually. A FREE can detect as low as 6 to 12 (if I remember right) and the urine ones at the office (I'm reading a box at the hospitals emergency department right now) say 100 sensitivity. Big big difference. Wouldn't worry too much. . If you had positives then there's hCg in there somewhere and it only comes from a baby

I'm sorry he had a 'tude. The ladies at my last clinic were SO odd and it came off sorude it seemed at times. Have you taken another home one? I know it can be so daunting waiting for the blood test. We're here to help you through it!!!

Thanks so much both of you. I'm at work right now (not getting any work done! Worry worry worry) but I think in my lunch break I'm going to go home and do another digital just to ease my mind until blood results come back. X

Usually doctor's urine pregnancy tests, test at 100miu. Home pregnancy tests test around 25miu. That's probably why it was negative Your urine was probably dilated too since you already used to restroom before hand. Go get a blood test! Congratulations!!

I agree with the others. The doctors test is just not as sensitive as the tests you got positives on. Silly doctors, getting us worried!

I wish he could have just said that to me instead of making me feel silly & crushing my hopes. Surely doctors know that hpts are more sensitive? I could take one in and show it to him if he likes! haha

I think doctors know less about this stuff then we give them credit for. The general population wouldn't bother even taking a home pregnancy test until after a significantly missed period, at which point the less sensitive tests would also show a positive. Only those of us who are actually trying to get pregnant test early enough to really need a super sensitive test. Sorry he got you upset! Try not to worry too much while waiting for your results.
