Yes, because these tests do not give you a "black and white answer", in my opinion the results were WRONG and I would never again do the first trimester screening. It caused me so much unnecessary worry and stress it was just awful. All to find out the test was, for a better term than "wrong", not all that accurate. To give someone a statistic, what is the point other than unnecessary stress. Never again for me. Just my opinion though, these tests are just plain WRONG. Tests, screening, wrack it up any way you want, and get technical but this whole "screening" process was a nightmare for me.

My first pregnancy the blood work came back fine...I lost my daughter 6 days after birth to trisomy 18 and she was born at 29 weeks 1 day.

This time, my NT and first trimester blood work was clean, but my second trimester blood work came back at a 1 in 236 risk of downs. I had the amnio and it showed we have a very healthy little girl.

The blood work has a lot of variation and is not always accurate. If your baby is growing on target and everything else looks good, then your chances are even better.

I had the NT test (scan and blood test) at 12 weeks which came back with a 1:11 chance of my baby having down syndrome. After a failed CVS the following week, then a 4 week wait for an amnio, the results came back negative for down syndrome. The screening test gives you a risk ratio only - in my case, if 11 women with exactly the same NT measurement, age and blood results as me ... only one of these women will have a baby with down syndrome. The screening tests cast a very wide net to detect as many pregnancies with chromosomal problems as possible, it's not a diagnostic test and as a result, a huge number of families are put through an incredible amount of needless stress.
The shock of discovering that baby was high risk followed by the agonising wait for answers, is still very raw and although i'm extremely relieved that my son is fine - it's left its toll and i feel "cheated' out of the pregnancy i'd envisioned.

My thoughts are with anyone going through this.

You know what a nightmare is? Going through the nt test and being told you had a high risk for a genetic issue, then having an amino, then being told your baby will not survive because he is affected by a fatal genetic issue.

Undue stress from these tests, in my world, is a small consequence of the testing process. I lost my son but knowing his issue saved my life. If I didn't do the test I would have likely died along with him (complicated issue). So, no, these tests aren't wrong or in accurate. A statistic of risk is just that. I wish to god that I had only to worry and have a healthy baby.

To me knowledge is power. It's your choice what you do with that knowledge.

The test can't be "wrong" or give you a "false positive". It is a ratio.

You and baby are in my thoughts but just remember that most people with your results end up with a healthy baby!
