i have subway now and then. The listeria risk in the uk is minimal especially in subway as the meat is always fresh, i dont have mine toasted as i hate it warm anyways, but i wouldnt worry, and i love pizza hut buffet-i just avoid the salad with dressing- and baby is still fine xxx
This falls into the "be careful" category. Because the meat is left in the buckets at the counter you need to be sure that things are kept at the right temp and handled appropriately. There is a bigger risk because it's handled more that's the point.
We are advised to not eat deli meats in Canada as someone else mentioned. I'd hate to have a problem then find out its something I could have prevented. Can you imagine if after the fact your nurse could have warned you but didn't? People would freak out. In fact no one should eat deli meats because of the nitrates people shouldn't eat a lot of things. The rules are more strict for pregnant women because we're given nine months to give our children a lifetime of health. I'd rather sacrifice for baby than indulge for myself.
There's was a very serious listeria outbreak at one of the biggest meat plants in Canada a few years back. Many people died and they had trouble finding out why it happened. It got people into hysteria and many people still avoid these meats and this company as a result all these years later. For me I'm more sensitive because of this experience. I'd say this is why Canadian women are told to avoid. Not sure how many Canadians remember this but for me I cant risk it especially when no one could imagine this happening and so many died as a result.
