After waiting for over a week for my glucose results (they "misplaced" them for a few days) I found out I got 162 on my glucose tolerance test. The cutoff for my doctors office is 140. I get to go back next week for my 3 hour test and I'm freaking out about it. I heard that failing the one hour and passing the three hour is pretty common but 162 seems kind of high... Anyone else in the same boat as me?
I failed the one hour test because I ate pancakes and orange juice that morning. And for some reason the Dr gave me the test at 11 weeks. I switched Dr's, had to take the 3 hour, which was normal and had to retake the 1 hour in the 2nd trimester. Everything came out fine.
So what's the one hour glucose test? I just know about the one where you fast for 12 hours. I declined that test. I need to eat.
They basically make you drink an extra sugary drink, wait an hour, then they draw your blood to check your blood sugar. If your blood sugar is above a certain level they'll make you come back for a 3 hour version of the same test (one drink, four blood draws.) They make you fast for the 3 hour version so that may be what you're talking about.
i failed mine also... i have to go back wednesday for the 3 hour one..... our cutoff is 135 and i was at 189.... this also happened when i was pregnant with my daughter and the 2nd test came back ok.... i hope it does this time also.. good luck to you!!
I haven't had my glucose test yet for this one, but with my youngest I failed my one hour. I went back in for my 3 hour test and passed with flying colors. I wouldn't stress on it. Chances are you will do fine, but I suggest bringing a good book and a big water bottle cause you will need something to kill the time.
