Antibiotics not working for UTI

Usually doctors tell you to keep taking your antibiotics even if you start to feel better within a day or two after taking them...

well, i'ts been 48 hours...1 pill every 6 hours, and my pee is still dark and cloudy, and having the same small amounts. It still also feels the same going, if anyone knows what I mean.

Can it take longer before I feel relief? Being the weekend, I just want advice from the forum, as I can't talk to a dc until Monday.

Is it possible my infrction is too severe that the meds wont work? I was tested 3 months ago, and told I was negative, although I know I still had a problem all that time waiting for my medical to finally kick in, and get lab results.

It could take a little longer for you to feel better, though after antibiotics watch out for things like thrush as this will be more common now to.
Hope you are feeling better soon.

unfortunately some infections can be resistant to certain antibiotics. I had a real bad throat infection once and was taking my penicillin but after a few days I couldn't even swallow my own saliva it got so bad and I turned up at the gp with a handwritten note saying "help!" and explaining what was happening since I couldn't speak to even phone for an appt.

I didn't realise that what was happening was simply that my infection was resistant to that antibiotic...

So, I would say stick with them (coming off them is bad and can make you resistant) but phone the dr's to check if it's starting to work once monday is here.

I think I've read a bit about garlic being a natural antibiotic and good at fighting infection too, so perhaps add a little to your food. Don't go mad, i'm sure too much isn't good either but maybe it can jus boost your body's natural defences slightly.

I've heard that antibiotics can sometimes make a UTI or yeast infection worse. I never take antibiotics when I get either one, I just down some cranberry juice, works better.

My dr told me there was a slight chance of me having a yeast infection last time I went in so she sent my urine to a lab to be tested and she would call me if the result was positive, she never called so I'm assuming no but I guess I will find out for sure on monday.

I will definitely continue my script until they're gone. Hopefully i will have nothing to worry about after a few days and the infection will go away. I did have a UTI my first pregnancy, it was treated, and didn't come back. I felt relief after a day or so though, which is why i'm worrying now.

I also have had UTI's before getting pregnant this time. I didn't have healthcare, so I used the OTC medications which would seem to work, but sometimes come back after a couple weeks.

I tried cranberry extract pills, cranberry juice....water i don't like, but mixed crystal light in it and drank that. I drank fluids like a fish, and it didn't help.Only the OTC meds and tylenol would help.

Guess i'll wait and see, and again...call monday if I don't feel relief. I did have a whole panel of tests done with my blood and urine..and if I had a yeast infection, i would of been informed. It was just a UTI.

I have the same issue. I had a utility about 3 months ago they gave me antibiotics but I still had the feeling. Still to this day and as we speak. Mine comes n goes usually I've noticed when I get hot. They said I no longer have infection so its probably baby laying on My bladder. But I don't believe that. U and I both know that horrible feeling down there which I can barely take much longer. Idk what it is but if u don't feel it going away after about 3 days on antibiotics then u probably have whatever it is I I know it really sucks got. Good luck to u

When planned Parenthood told me the first time after they said they tested me I was negative for UTI, i googled to see if it's possible to have neg UTI but still have symptoms.

I did come across this condition...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstitial_cystitis

Basically having a negative UTI, but with symptoms....no known cause, and no cure. Sometimes triggered by certain foods or drinks. Now to find out what type of food or drink...it's a pain!

I thought that's what I had too for these past 3 months..I very well may have it, if the antibiotics don't end up working.

I tried cutting out sugars, as that was the most common thing I found with women who had it. i also cut out acidic foods. I couldn't determine what what causing it.

This very well may be what you have...just thought i'd shed the light for those with situations like ours.

I would at least wait until Monday afternoon to see if they started working. If not I would call your doctor then. Can I ask you a question? When your doctor said you had a uti, did you happen to have protein or blood in your urine?

I have had 2 UTIs alongside thrush in the last 6 weeks ! When they tested my urine there was protein and blood in it.

I am getting tested again tomorrow to see if it's cleared up as I don't get side effects with UTIs, it's a pain !!
