"hood" piercing... do i have to take it out??

sorry if tmi! did you have to take yours out, before or for birth? I can understand nipple piercings, (mine didn't make it past first tri cuz the girls hurt so much) and i'm hanging on to my top and bottom belly button piercings (cuz im not sure when i need to get maternity ones in there but i think i should order them soon, any advice on these welcome too) but i can't think of a reason for the hood to come out?? Anyone with experience?? Thanks!!

OMG is that where I think it is?!? you'll have to take out any percings at birth for sure. In case you need emergency surgery they require no jewelry at all (if your having a hospital birth). And if it is "down there" I'm not sure how you can stand it now. I'm so sensitive and prone to yeast infections since getting pregnant, but that's just me.

yup, it is my nipple really hurt the worst and so far no trouble with that one, but i did have a yeast infection a couple weeks ago although it never crossed my mind? its weird though cuz body wash seems to burn or something a little bit down there now and it never did before? is this just me? i think i need to try dove or something like that... hm. there is no way for it to get in the way or rip or anything during birth... but your right about the "medical procedures" whether it interferes or not... i am thinking about just leaving it in and winging it but this really is all new to me! dh would have to take it out for me cuz i won't be able to get past the bump i'd imagine a few days before... I earned it going thru the process to get it haha i don't want to lose it! i would never do it again! haha

Well I feel like I should congratulate you. Lol.

It wouldn't rip or anything during labour but even without surgery you may need forceps or the vacuum which I'm sure would mean youd need it out.

Sorry I know you asked for someone with experience, which I have none of in that specific area.

LOL. I wondered what a hood piercing was too. I'm old! I was gonna ask hubby but decided against it because IF he knew what it was I might have smacked him upside the head. I am not experienced either, obviously, but I would think it has to come out as well. Before you go and remove it though ask the Dr if its safe. That's really your best bet. Good luck!

I was planning to keep mine in as close to birth as possible, but i keep getting yeast infections and all that itching and irritation just annoyed me, so the ring had to go. It definitely has to come out, but there's no reason to do it at 20 weeks unless youre at risk for preterm labor. If i hadnt got yeast infections i probably would have kept it in until 36 weeks.

If it is where i think it is then ask your doctor and see what they advise.

You will need to take it out for birth, regardless if you have a c-section or vaginal. The doctor will want it out. As far as leaving it in, I personally would take it out. As your tummy grows, you will have a harder time seeing down there and bacteria inside of a hole isn't a good mix, in my opinion. You could be really setting yourself up for infections for you and for the baby if you have a hole with bacteria on it during childbirth. I'd take it out now and hope it gets close to being closed by the time you deliver. good luck. xx

thanks for the feedback... im not really worried about it getting infected.. i have had it for something like 7 years now and wash daily.. have quite a few piercings and never had any infections, knock on wood. i was more thinking in the hosp scenario, and i think i might get dh to take it out when it gets to near that time for medical sake...

i noticed tonight though my "innie" belly button isn't as far in anymore (yet not an outie) so just ordered up some mat barbels for those bad boys! im all about preservation!
