Should I be waiting awhile until I can get a sense of whether she's going to be a big girl or not? I have I think 96 newborn that came in my diaper cake and also another pack we got at baby shower, but should i just splurge on an assortment of sizes? Any mommies out there with some insight?
I'd say if they are on sale- go ahead and get some! I had a LO in Jan. and I'm pregnant again.. I bought diapers in advance for my January baby and DID end up having a little too much.. but I also have a boy who grows like a weed!!!!!!
I'd say just get one box of newborn, one box of size 1 (larger box too I mean- of like 180-200 diapers), 2 boxes of size 2.. and then get a 3or 4 boxes of size 3 and 4. I also have a 10 year old son and I remember he went the longest in size 3 and 4 bc by then ~ they're not growing as quickly. You HONESTLY could probably get away without buying ANY newborns and just start with size 1-- especially since you already have 96 of them!
I wouldn't get too many newborn sizes. My son completely skipped that size in diapers and went straight to 1's. He was in 1's for a little while, but I can't remember exactly how long.
The another problem with buying too many diapers is some babies are allergic to different brands or they just don't suit a baby. I've heard people rave about Pampers but I HATED how they fit on my son and I had a time with the lil stretchy sides because they kept ripping! We ended up having to use regular tape to use these up and ripping them open to change him.
I loved how Huggies fit on my son and he NEVER had leaks in them (unlike those darn Pampers). BUT I've heard some people complain about the Huggies and LOOOVED the Pampers. Others were fine with store brands (at the time my son was in diapers, none of the store brand had stretchy sides. my son had to have these for his lil chunky legs )
I would get a small pack of each size, perhaps one or two different brands but hold off on stocking WAY up on them. That way you begin to develop a perference and an opinion on a brand, your baby won't outgrow a size before it's used up, and to make sure there's no allergy.
Yep, definately try different brands. A box of each would let you know for sure. My son didn't have any allergies to any of the wipes I used but my friend's son couldn't use Huggies wipes. He would wind up with a blood red rash every time so she had to be careful.
I like the Parent's Choice of wipes or the Equates (walmart brand). They're thick like huggies but cheaper I use them myself to remove makeup, or for my ...er....hemoroids (Sorry if TMI).
My goal was to buy a pack at each dr. appointment. Ive got two large packs of newborns, and then was going to move up to the size 1's, but given the uncertainity that this baby could be small or preemie, im not sure what size to buy. I mean, obviously they will get used, but I dont want to buy too many newborns. Plus, when I start going twice a week in the third trimester, that would get outragous. So as it sits, one large pack a month for us and I figured I'll have a few newborns, a few size 1s and a few size 2, and then also buy a box of wipes at the same time, because you can never have enough of those!
I have already started hoarding diapers and wipes. I'm not buying anything newborn sized. They keep telling me that my baby will be big, so we might skip newborn altogether.
I have heard wonderful things about target brand diapers. They have sales every few weeks where you can buy a couple of boxes on sale in addition to getting a $5 or $10 gift card. I'm saving the gift cards for things like butt paste, shampoo, and other assorted little things that we may need on late night runs. We are also members at Costco, so we use their coupons for diapers and wipes as well. I have a lot of natural wipes, so I can't imagine we will have many problems with those.
I agree with the off brand diapers. They are just the same, if not better then the big name brands, and you can get them so much cheaper. Plus, you cant beat the target gift cards. I love target. LOL.. I bought a bunch of cute outfits there the other day.
I have 1 pack of size 1 and 2 so far. They are not a big pack so I will get another box of each and probably at least 1 box of newborns. It's so hard to tell but my dd was in newborns for a couple months. I definitely don't want to over buy but I want some put up!!
I'm waiting until after my shower before I buy anything else.
I say to just save money then buy when baby is here as we need them. We don't all be on with all makes or sizes. There will be plenty in the shops when baby is here, and always deals in supermarkets on online. I wold save money and buy them when baby is here, no need to stock pile. Can even send DH out to get some when you ae in hospital, there is no hurry. My get one pack of newborn pampers but that's it I think.
