Can I say in all fairness, when I was working 70 hours a week (not including the unpaid time for paperwork etc) my income wasn't huge due to the outgoings for the job,
It is true what they say, that you don't get rich from childminding, if that's why I did it then I would have quit years ago!

Wow, I am amazed to hear the price of daycare in UK. Here in Texas, we pay around $600 per month.

Ah but ticking clock, you charge way less than most, which is great for those that use you, but not so profitable for you. Even for my childminder, she charges 4 an hour, but will only have 4 at the max - so that's only 16 an hour - for a highly skilled job requireing knowledge and experience with insurance to pay, risk assessment, paperwork and patience that's not alot.

I don't feel childcare provides are to blame really, in fact I'm not sure who is. Nurserries have a tremedous amount of paperwork, risk assessments, rent, insurance and free child places - not to mention actually caring for our kids - so it's unsurprising their overheads have gone up.

The governement then will offer subsidies to encourage people back to work with free childcare - which is great for some, but doesn't help us already working, who earn a little more. It's a bigger gripe I have - I have none against those who earn less or sah, but I feel punished from every angle constantly for owning a home, going to college for my profession and the earning the money to reflect that. I may be better off in the future - but it's now I need it for my children!!

Ah loolabelle, the expenses we have are a joke,
Around 2/3rds of your charges goes out in expenses, if not more.
I've never met a childminder who earns enough to pay tax!
I earn a decent wage "on paper" as I have mainly before and after school children but once I've paid out what I need to I earn less than minimum wage despite working from 7am until 8pm, not taking into account the time spent in paperwork etc,
But that said, I love my job x
