OMG!! Childcare costs have gone up loads

Have just made the mistake of looking for nurseries in the area, which I already knew would be hard as that's what I do for a living. But wow, 55 a day at one of them! Shocked.

Yes, its absolutely crazy. To put our kids in daycare if I wanted to work, would defeat the whole purpose of me even working. Every penny would go to daycare.

I thought the 36 a day that we pay for my son was bad enough but over 50 ..... it would not be worth me working

It's one of the reasons I decided to stay at home 5 years ago. To have 2 kids in daycare was more than my mortgage, and it made no sense for me to work.

That's why I stay home - with the cost of nursery and travel I would not bring anything home!

Wish we could! It's so frustrating but that extra 200 we'd make is necessary otherwise we couldn't pay all or bills etc

Is there another way you could make that 200? Part time work maybe?

Sx

23% increase this year in the local area. I gave up work - I was doing supply teaching which, when the work is there is decent money - but the work is drying up quite terribly and it's no way to make a living these days, so it made no economic sense to pay out for childcare when there was no guarantee of work coming in.

Luckily I can do some private tutoring work on an evening while hubby watches the babies for a couple of hours which gives us a little bit of money as breathing space.
