I just want to know, when is a good time to buy baby stuff the big things and clothes?? I see on the forum that some babies die at 19 w and older and I have a fear of letting myself go and getting something for the baby.
I don't even window shop, I am scared something will happen to the little one and the pain is just something I wont be able to live with (maybe because I had a MC remember the pain)
SO WHEN IS THE OFFICIAL TIME TO START BUYING BABY STUFF????
I wouldn't say there is a right time to go out and start buying things. One thing I will say though (even though it's an ol' wives tale) is if you buy a pram and cot don't bring them into the house until baby is born!
Everyone is different hun. We've been shopping since 14 weeks when we had our first scan as money is tight so we're trying to spread to cost.
Others I know leave it until 36 weeks and just have a blast getting it all in one go.
If you don't feel comfortable them don't force yourself but just bear in mind that there is quite a lot of stuff to choose from so it may be a good idea to, rather than actually buying, make lists of items , figure out what you would like etc before you buy, which may help you later on down the line.
I agree aimee-lou! To be honest, i havent bought a thing either, not because i dont want to, simply because im waiting to find out the sex. It will be a gradual thing for me i think, and also depending on when we have some spare cash, but major items will ave to be saved up for so if you start window shopping, be it online or instore, you can make a list of what you need and want!
I can understand how you feel, I sort of feel like I am tempting fate (even though I have seen my baby girl 3 times now). With my son I waited until after our 2nd scan which was around 22 weeks but then he was born at 36 weeks and we hadn't got round to getting the car seat yet
This time I have literally just started to buy a few things, yesterday I picked up some cotton wool, nappy cream etc in my weekly shop to help spread the cost a bit. Plan to wait until after my next scan before looking at pushchairs etc and for some reason clothes seem to early at the moment???
There is no right time for buying baby's things, its totally up to you and how you feel.
I have been buying things since 12 weeks after my first scan. Just s few small things at first then after our 20 week scan when we found out the sex I started to buy bigger things.
The main reason I am buying now is to spread the cost. I am rubbish at saving so if I buy a few things every month by the time baby comes I should have everything. Also it means if I see something on a discount I get it and save a few penny's there too.
Maybe do what Aimee-lou suggests and start making a list, thats certainly half the battle. Then if you decide to wait until later you won't have to panick yourself as you will be ready organised :-)
Just do whatever you feel comfortable doing hun, there is no right or wrong time to buy x
We started buying things at 12 weeks, just small things at first, but we recently bought our travel system (pram and car seat) and we have that in the house. Also we were donated a high chair! So we have that here too.
OH's Dad is buying the crib so that will arrive whenever he decides to get it i guess.
For us, starting reasonably early and spreading it out was the best option but i know some people don't feel comfortable getting anything at all until later.
I just feel that if something awful were to happen and we were to lose our baby then it would be the worst thing that had ever happened to either of us and would just be devastating and terrible, but that would be the case whether or not we had already started to buy baby things.
8I have started buying things already, it's only because i am due around xmas and just want everything out of the way then i can concerntrate on getting the decs up, the xmas shopping done and all wrapped up, it's going to be a hectic xmas this year.
My mom says that if you buy anything before 7th month, you'll jinx things! eventhough, I dont believe in old wives' tales/myths, this one I dont wanna take a chance with! so i'll wait until then to buy anything...looking is a whole different ball game
