It's colostrum and can happen even in the first trimester. It's the first food the baby will have before the milk, very nutrient rich. As the milk duct form they produce colostrum and leak from time to time -all very normal and in fact a good thing

No this full of antibodies and is what the baby needs for the first couple days unitl your milk comes in - Just like breast milk it's the pefect food for baby in those first few hours. I don't know the chemical composition of colostrum but it is what is supposed to happen it might not be so different from milk but it is the most important thing the baby get right after birth if at all possible

You're welcome. I bet some other ladies who have breastfed before might even have better info for you.

as been said its perfectly normal its just colostrum, ive been leaking since first tri. and its all i produced for about 8-10 days after my son was born. my milk came in late but i never had a prob feeding him at all until i couldnt take it anymore after the first 4 weeks, he was a bad latcher!! hoping to do better this time.lol
breastpads are a good idea if youre leaking already saves you from feeling all sticky xx

Yep it's perfectly normal to start leaking colostrum at this stage!

Colostrum is amazing stuff! As well as antibodies, it is rich in proteins (nine times as much as mature breastmilk) and vitamins. It is very easy to digest, has a laxative effect to help get rid of meconium and seals the tiny holes in the baby's digestive system. A newborn baby's stomach is the size of a marble, so they will need feeding often to stimulate your milk supply. After a few days, the colostrum turns into mature breast milk (this is known as your milk coming in), which contains less protein and more fat.

I would like to add that with in days of the baby being born the "milk" will be yellow or orange and that is normal also so don't worry thats the antibodies in it making it healthy for baby.

So basicly, as soon as the baby is born..she eats this colostrum? not milk..?
Also how soon after they are born do they need to be fed? is it straight away?
