Ouch!! Massive toothache - UPDATE - Antibiotics??!!

As it says girls, I have a killer of a toothache and it hasn't let up since last night when I got into bed! It really hurts and I can't even eat - which is not good!
I am aware that I can't have dental work done, is that still true??
Is there any kind of remedy that can help me?? I have only taken one paracetomol so far and that did sweet bugger all...
Please help with any advice!
TIA!!

I Have read that you can have dental work done, just not advisable in 1st tri. A girl posted about it the other day in 1st tri. Her husband is a dentist.

Nothing worse than toothache, hope you feel better soon.

oh ouchy! i've had really sore gums etc for a while, not as bad as you but can sympathise!!

if i were you i'd go see the dentist as soon as you can (or call them at least) - they'll know what you can and can't have done, and will be able to tell you if there are pregnancy safe remedies.

Hope it eases up soon!
x

Thanks soooo much for responding girls - yeah I will at least ask and that sounds positive that you can have stuff done after 1st tri is over (phew!!)!

It is just so awful, I feel like a moaning bear!! Not attractive lol!

Hi Trishy,

I can sympathise with you as I had a really bad toothache in my first tri - it was so bad I couldn't eat or sleep - in the end I went to dentist and was a bit worried about drugs/ having it out but I checked with midwife and whilst they recommend no work during pregnancy, it has to outweigh the pain you are actually suffering and it may make you exhausted and more problematic for bubs!

Anyway long story short, I went to the dentist and had the tooth out that day - this was in my first tri - obviously its worrying but I felt so much better having it out!

Take care xxxx

Wow, ok! Thanks for that... Glad you got it sorted hun... yeah, I know I will have to do something cos it isn't just a niggly pain - it is that kind of pain that makes you sit there with a frown on your face (creating more wrinkles!) whilst throwing in a moan every now and then! Ugh!

You can, in London anyway, have work done. I've had a problem with my tooth since November, its been cracked so rather painful but over the weekend it cracked right through. The dentist gave me an eighth of the usual amount of pain killer injection so only my tooth was numb, and gave me a temporary filling.

You can't have the metal type fillings, but white ones are fine. And even x-rays are ok as they emit a very low dose of radiation and it is very concentrated on your mouth, rather than near your belly, plus you can put a lead apron on your stomach if you want too. I also had antibiotics as at first they thought it was infected.

Hope that helps.

S.

Yes it does help thanx!
So I have just got in touch with a dentist that my aunty here highly recommends and he can see me in 4hrs. She said she told him I was preg and he told her not to worry, so I guess that means everything will be sorted and I can hopefully have a very sound night's sleep!
Thanks to you all for taking the time....

I just went to the dentist on Monday! I need to get a wisdom tooth removed as it has a cavity and is coming out anyways.

Basically, she said that dental surgery CAN be done while pregnant, but they want to avoid it as much as possible. Unless you are in a lot of pain (which it sounds like u are ), they will wait until you deliver, just because of the xrays and the drugs.

I'm waiting until after the baby for my surgery. Hopefully yours gets sorted!!!!
