i dont want to have bubs at our local hospital

our local hospital is ok, its only 5 mins away, i had my son there and didnt really have any complaints but the hospital in a near by town(45 mins away)seems so much better, instead of having a private room while in labour and then being moved to a ward, you go in to a room while you are in labour and you stay in the same room until you are going home. all rooms are ensuite and partners are allowed to stay with you for your entire stay. ive got a friend who has given birth in both hospitals(she lives in between the two towns and had a choice) and she said the one further away from me was much nicer. i would really like to give birth in that hospital, but OH isnt keen on us having to travel 45 mins when im in labour when we could just go 5 mins down the road. but like ive tried saying to him, the other hospital is on the same street his mum lives on so when i start in labour we could go to his mums and then we are literally 2 mins from the hospital. do you think i could do that? i figure if i go into labour and turn up there then they wouldnt turn me away would they?? i dont fancy having our baby and then OH being sent home x

awww that sounds brilliant! I definitely understand what you say about your OH being sent home - I really really don't want that to happen, I don't want him to be apart from our new family and so if you can get the choice of somewhere like that, then do it! They can't turn you away, but the only thing I will say is that a colleague of mine was staying at her Mums which is about 50 mins away from her house, she went into the hospital and they did try and tell her to go to the other hospital. She just refused and thank goodness she did otherwise she'd have had the baby on the way to the other hospital. However, the hospital she went to hasn't got the best reputation anyway which might be why they were a bit horrible and trying to send her away. This hospital sounds amazing so go for it!!

xx

its Oh's mum(my mum died when i was 11) OH's mum is great though, shes lovely, she does all she can to offer help if we need it but isnt pushy and doesnt stick her nose in lol.
the hospital i want to go to is in grimsby, heres a link with a page about the maternity services

http://www.nlg.nhs.uk/services/maternity/grimsby.asp

I'm sure you'd be allowed to go to the other hospital. Have a word with your midwife. I'm not going to my local one, which like yours is five minutes away, because it's a midwife led facility, meaning that if there are any complications at all they put you in an ambulance and ship you off to the better hospital, about half an hour away.

Oh i'm sorry honey, obviously didn't read that through properly. So sorry you lost your mum but oh's mum sounds lovely.

That hosptial does sound ace! I couldn't tell from the website - is it like a midwife-led unit? i was torn over whether to go to mlu near us, it was private rooms like this one is, however they couldn't do epidurals and if anything went wrong they couldn't deal with it, so you'd be transferred to hull which scared me a bit, i thought i would want to know i could get any help needed straight away! I'm a bit of a worrier, kept imagining what if there was a huge accident and i couldn't get transferred quickly enough... ridiculous i know.

its got all the bonuses of a midwife led unit but its attached to the main hospital so you still get to have epidurals and all the other stuff you would get being in a main hospital...typical that i dont live in that town lol. im going to try my best to get to go there x

I have the same situation. I have a hospital 5 mins away but after watching on eof my friends go through hell with that hospital I don't want to finish my pregnancy with them but the other maternity hospital is 30-40 mins away depending on traffic and I have never heard 1 bad comment or experience said about the other hospital. You do have a choice on which hospital you birth at and they have to listen to what you want as in the end it is your choice on where you have baby

if you speak to your MW she will change you over you have a choice

if they are being funny say you will be staying at your MIL as she will be looking after your child so need to be closer to that hospital

you are meant to be able to chose x
