Dr. found hole in babies stomach at 19 week scan

I had my 19 week scan last Friday and today the nurse called and said the doctor found a hole in the babies stomach. She told me not to worry that it might just be a fold in the babies intestine. I have another ultra sound scheduled for March 5th and he will know more then. Has anyone else had this happen or know someone who has. What was the outcome. Any information on this would be very appreciated. thanks.

I hope it turns out just fine. I don't know which country you're in or if you're UK and have been watching the C4 show, One Born Every Minute but on the first episode of that they successfully delivered a little boy diagnosed with a hole in his tummy during pregnancy. You can follow the story at http://94.236.95.145/parents/mothers...an-ultrasound/ (I hope the link works). Best of luck x

Hi. First of all, to you. Our baby was diagnosed with this condition, gastroschisis, three weeks ago. It means our little bean has a hole in his/her abdominal wall and some of the intestines are outside of the body. The condition is quite rare, only about one baby in 10 000 has it... It does sound more scary than it is. Our baby will be operated right after birth. The intestines will be put back and the hole will be sewn up. The recovery will take some time before the stomach starts to work but over 90 % of babies survive and most don't have any problems in their later life.

I know how scary it sounds. After a week of crying my OH and I got a hold of ourselves and have now accepted this. The fear of losing our baby doesn't go away but we HAVE to stay positive, there's no other way... I really hope your baby won't have it but if he/she does, please don't panic. PM me if you need to talk!
