When did your work respond to your maternity leave request?

Hi,

I know I should post this in the finance forum but thought I would ask here first as that forum doesn't oftem get a lot of responses.

I gave my manager a letter on the 3rd February stating that I was pregnant and when I wanted to begin my mat leave and SMP.. I also put on it that I wouldn't get my matb1 form until 26th Feb but would supply it as soon as I had it.

I then gave him my MatB1 form on 26th Feb as I had said I would.

But I have had absolutely nothing back from them in return

The gov website says work should respond with a letter within 28 days saying when I am due back to work. Obviously I haven't had this within 28 days of my first letter.

Should I wait until 28 days after my matb1 form was handed in before I chase it up or chase it up with them now?

I am pretty sure they don't know what they are doing between them and my only hope is that the accountant (who does my pay roll) has the knowledge to make sure they keep paying me!

I am not planning on returning to work so I am not worried about getting an actual date, I just want some kind of confirmation in writing that they are actually going to pay my smp!

any advice welcome xx

have they not risk assesed you or anything? I told my employer when i was 19 weeks, and that same week i was called into the office and the manager spoke to me with risks at my work etc and changed my work around so i'd be safe, and said when i hand that form in, we'll then talk about leave etc, I just can't wait to leave lol!

My work is the same. I handed in my letter confirm preg on 1st feb but nothing... Handed in my MAt B` on 4th March... still nothing in writing. Will be 28 days from then I guess.

Out of interest when do you intend finish work? are you taking your outstanding hols first?

I haven't informed my boss in writing yet. Am going to do it this week as will be getting my MAT B1 soon.
I know for a fact I probably won't get a reply though unless I do it myself! As it's only a small company there isn't a specific HR dept and I'm the main admin person.
Anybody know of a site where I can download the employers obligations? I figure if I put info along with my dates in the letter he might stop asking me how long I'm taking off and how long am I allowed!
As for a risk assessment....I won't be holding my breath

I told my manager at my supervision and we had a chat about it, how i was feeling etc and said to me that anything i needed i should just ask, if i need time off etc.
Then straight after he booked another meeting 2 days later to have a proper chat about dates and risk assessments and he filled out all the MATB1 forms for me, i just signed.

My manager is great, hes a real family man so is very much pro family life etc so he was really helpful.

Its a shame not all managers could be like this. But you really do need to know your rights and ensure everything is in place for you for your own piece of mind at the very least.

Good luck.
