high risk??? gestational hypertension

Unfortunately I have had consistent high blood pressure over the last week and have been diagnosed with gestational hypertension . I am being transferred from my midwife to a high risk OB-GYN. Has anyone been in the same boat as me? What is different with high risk pregnancies, especially ones that are high risk because of gestational hypertension? Will everything be alright with my baby?????

I had high blood pressure with my first, my son. They watched me closer...I had more appointments. I had LOTS of swelling. I could put my finger in my leg and the indent would remain for hours. I had such swollen feet that I had to buy special shoes. It only really became an issue when they started finding protein in my urine. Then of course, they got really concerned and wanted to deliver. My blood pressure was down that day though, so they let it go and wanted me back the next day....which was the day my son came on his own at 38 weeks. You will just likely get lots of extra attention and they will keep a closer eye on you. Oh, stay away from hot tubs and hot baths...I had a scary episode where I sat in the hot tub and almost passed out afterward. My OB said it was because of my blood pressure.

I just read that site, and that does sound scary, but I was just past 20 weeks when they told me that my blood pressure was going high, so try not to worry. They will take good care of you.

Thank you JASMAK! Seeing as I am also only past 20 weeks when being diagnosed, it is helpful to know that you were in the same situation and everything was okay
