To all you army wives and girlfriends....

I think you are so brave xx
We've jsut found out my BIL is off to Afghanistan 2 weeks after our due date and we are gutted - he wasnt meant to be going until December.
We are really hoping that baby times his/ her appearance so that uncle Josh can meet him/ her otherwise bubs will be 6 months old before he gets a cuddle.
Its bad enough with my BIL going out there, cant imagine what its like to have OH in army xxxx

When your an ARMY wife... you just gotta be a trouper I think! I make myself happy by telling my OH I'm gonna break his knee caps if he gets sent over Hes not scheduled to go till 2011!! We know a lot of people over and that have been over now days though and its not supposed to be as dangerous... and a lot of the people that I know then went over had a blast! So I'm sure your BIL will be fine and you will just have to buy him a webcam and have webcam dates!!! Thats what OH and I do!

I totally support you all as well considering I have been not only an army wife, but also an army brat (child of military). My father didn't see me until I was 7 months old due to being off in Vietnam, and he wound up doing 3 seperate tours there for just over a year each time.

My ex-husband had to go away to a 3 months school when our youngest was 4 months old. It was tough being 1,200 miles away from family and having 3 children under the age of four. Trips to the grocery store were pretty much a circus!

Unfortunately, my ex-husband's deployment to Afghanistan in 2005 cost us our marriage. He left me while he was over there for a female soldier he met 3 weeks after deploying. She was only 20 (he 40). They wound up marrying. The casualties of these wars go way beyond the human lives lost. So many families are destroyed.

My OH is going to the Falklands when our little one will be 4 weeks old He's managed to escape Afghan again for a while so at least that is something.

To who ever said they know people that went over and had a blast I'd love to know what they actually did out there. My OH has told me bits and pieces of what he saw and did but wouldn't tell me much as he found it at times very distrubing.
