Hi ladies...I'll be officially joining you all next week Cant wait. Have a question only you 2nd (or 3rd) tri ladies can answer....
Anyone got an early dating ultrasound only to find at the 18-20 week one that the dates were off significantly (a week or more)?
I swear I feel at least a week further along than my dating scan claims I am. For one thing, I know that you can show much sooner in you second pregnancy, and this is the case with me however, this is ridiculous. My bump today looks the same as my 5.5-6 month bump did with my son!
Second, I feel soooo much fluttering, which I believe would be really early for the stage I am now, but I know the difference in fluttering and other internal rumblings and these are FLUTTERS.
Third, as my husband and I calculated from my LMP, I counted ahead of the sonographer by week or so, but when she said I was 8+4 at the dating ultrasound, I just assumed that maybe I ovulated later in the month than I thought I did....
My due date is March 9th. But I had counted March 2nd before the dating ultrasound. Anyone have any similar experiences?
With my 1s child, I was given a due date of August 8th, then August 10th... and sure enough I went into labor exactly on the 10th, and he was born on the 11th. Very lucky for a first birth!
I think even a week ahead wouldnt make much difference to your bump.
I had a sizeable bump at 12wks and this is my 2nd pregnancy too.
Most scans are pretty accurate and it is normal to have symtoms earlier
in 2nd pregnancies.
All babies follow the same pattern of growth in the womb, which is how the
sonographer works out how far along you are by how developed the baby is,
its not whether your baby is big or small.
The scan could be out according to your dates, but a scan is more accurate
than your dates, even if you know when you did the deed ect, because sperm
can live in your womb for up to a week and you could have ovulated on any
of those days when the sperm was present.
I had a similar experience. Went for an early/dating scan at 5w5d. I knew my dates exactly because I was tracking ovulation with tests and temping. At the scan they said I was 3w5d....how they could explain why there was a little flickering HB so early I will never know.
Anyway, I ignored them and didn't mention it when I registered with my midwife (it was a different hospital and they don't share records). I stuck to my original dates. Then at my nuchal scan at 12 weeks, LO measured 13 weeks. That meant I was a week AHEAD of what I knew to be my dates. And that would have been 3 weeks ahead if I had changed my dates based on the first scan. Those early scans aren't that accurate imho and it would seem the 12 week one isn't that accurate either. It's only a guestimate so I wouldn't worry too much.
Only thing is I don't think they will change your dates again even if you do measure differently at 20 weeks because babies aren't measured in the same way at that stage and after 13/14 weeks they grow at very different rates to each other.
If you have got flutters, even if this is your second pregnancy I would say you are probably a bit ahead of 12w4d....but that's just a guess.
I have been told by my doctor and the ultrasound techs that the due date calculated from the first ultrasound (8-12 weeks) is always the most accurate because by the second ultrasound (18-22) weeks, the baby has had time to take on the moms and dads genetics, which is why we can tell what he/she is by that point.. Obviously, it may run in your family to have bigger babies, or vise versa, and by this point, your baby is likely to have inherited that as well..
My husband was a 10 lb baby, so they were expecting my little boy to measure on the big side as well on his 18 weeks scan, and sure enough he did. He measured 5 or 6 days before his actual due date, but they told me not to go on this, as the first due date, calculated at the 8 week scan was more accurate!
erm well the answer to your question is yes! they can get it wrong my first scan the sonographer said I was being put back from 13 weeks to 11 weeks. they asked me to go back two weeks later (which would have made me 13 weeks again) only to be told they made a mistake and put me forward a week again? hmmm I knew myself I was further.
From my LMP I was due 11th March
First scan at what I thought was 6+3 was put back to 6+1 13th March
Second scan 8+5 was put forward to 9+1 ie march 7th
Third scan 11+4 was put forward again to 6th March
Final dating scan at 12+2 Put forward to 12+5 and now due March 3rd.
Its not an exact science and is called an estimated due date for a reason.
The certainly can get it wrong, i only had sex once within a 2 month period of getting pregnant, so can pretty much pinpoint conception to with 5 days (since sperm can live that long)
I wasn't ttc so wasn't using opks or anything, but have always O'd between cd17-19.
It works out the day I had sex was infact cd17 (4th april) so quite likely that i conceived that day, or a day or 2 later at most. Making my EDD Dec 26th.
I had a 1-2wks on a digi and a frer with an immediate test line darker than the control line 11 days after sex on the 15th april, but.. my dating scan says I conceived on 13th april making me due 4th Jan
So, either that was miracle sperm/implantation speeds or, my scan dates are almost 2 weeks out!
i think u feel more with preg after no 1 babe cos u no what u are feeling an looking for but yeah i went for my scan and was given a edd date but then went for my next an it had jumped up by about 4 weeks babe i always say scan are terrible sometimes lol good luck babe x
