soo bloody upset! antibiotics has given me thrush AGAIN :(

I suffered really bad thrush just over two weeks ago, about 4 days after my dating scan where they took a urine sample to test for a uti.

The thrush cleared up in a few days but it was a nightmare and rendered me completely useless as i was sooo swollen and sore i could barely walk.

My test results came back from the uti testing and said i had a uti!! so now i'm taking antibiotics that have caused the thrush to surface again i'm gutted I have to take the antib's for a week and i'm worried i'll have thrush for as long and i'll have to miss my gender scan (that i've already paid for!! )

Can i use my caneston cream alongside the antib's? could the uti test have detected thrush and not a uti? I've had NO symptoms of a uti AT ALL!!!

Sorry for the rant, but i'm sooo tearful at the minute! I can't miss my gender scan, we're not exactly well off

O and to top it off the antib's have penicillin in them and my oh is allergic to it.... there's no danger to the baby under that is there? i mean if s/he has inherited his allergy (if that's possible with penicillin allergy's?) ????

I did try to ask my midwife and the response i got was i'd miscarry if i didn't take the tablets............ delightful! and not in a caring way might i add!!! she was one of those notoriously grumpy midwives

Any advice welcomed with open arms and much gratitude

Honey i so feel for you! From 8wks with Poppy if i didn't have a uti i had thrush! I was on antibiotics almost constantly and got through so much canesten i can't tell you. It all started to clear up around 22 weeks, you poor thing, i know exactly how miserable you are, i have been dreading this happening since i got my bfp. I had it happen a few times that i had a uti but no symptoms, don't think it could be thrush but worth checking. I hear yoghurt is good for soothing thrush, also doc told me to always wee after sex, always make sure bladder is totally empty, drink plenty of water and cranberry juice, try not to hold wee too long and wear cotton knickers xxxx

Natural yoghurt - eat lots and lots, and also if you're not too grossed out put it down there - it will work wonders. Also take lots of probiotics. The doctors don't warn you that the anti-biotics wipe out all your good bacteria as well as your bad bacteria and you need to replenish it - Canesten cream won't do this as it's merely there to relieve the symptoms. You need to put it back into your body which is where the yoghurt and probiotics come in. xxxxx

ETA - thrush only comes around when your good bacteria is out of whack which is what happens when you have anti-biotics (it's the good bacteria that eats the thrush). If you take the anti-fungals in conjuction with replenishing your good bacteria you should kick it for good! xxx

Join the club! I have pretty much had it on and off for as long as I can remember and almost permanently since becoming pregnant. I just eat as much yoghurt as poss, try to avoid tight pants, jeans, leggings etc, never hold wee in for long so always empty your bladder as soon as you need to go and also watch what shower gels you use down there, you need to get something that is unperfumed so as not to aggravate it. I know how you feel though it really isn't pleasant at all but don't miss your scan because of it, there's no reason why you should as they won't go anywhere near that area and just make sure you soothe it with lots of cream and you'll be ok. x
