I wish I'd asked what the things on there checklist meant like FL, BPD, Liquor volume etc etc.

Good luck for your scan xx

The measure length in the early days for 'dating' the pregnancy. Once that it done they move onto measuring different parts of the baby to check growth as lengths of babies varies hugely the further into the pregnancy you go (you'll probably have heard 'long baby' etc?) and any measurements you do find online for the baby after 20 weeks are top of head to heel as opposed to crown to rump in the 'early' days.

Hope this helps?

Hmm interesting - that must be why one resource says my baby is about 6.5 inches now and another says 10 inches.

Yep, just to confuse us.

I didn't realise initially and was wondering how on earth this 10.5 inch 'crown to rump' baby was in what was still a comparatively small uterus!

Btw, really glad you're still around Minkymoo - would've missed your posts had you gone.

P.S. Knowing my pregnant brain, I will probably forget to take this list with me to my 20-week scan tomorrow!

If anyone wants to know what all the abbreviations mean on the printed report:

(my mother is actually a midwife lol and my step-father is a gynaecologist obstetrician would you believe!)

Liquor volume is the amount of amniotic fluid surrounding baby (should be near where it notes placenta location)

BPD: Bi Parietal Diameter - width across baby's head
FL: Femur Length - length of the thigh bone
HC: Head Circumference - distance around baby's head
AC: Abdominal Circumference - distance around baby's abdomen/tummy

Also an I thought this was cool and something they never told me at the scan but you can actually estimate the baby's weight at the time of the scan using the measurements. I have NO idea how accurate this is but this site says it can calculate it for you. http://www.hutchon.net/Fetalwt.htm

HTH! xxx

Just got a call from the hospital saying they would like me to come in for my 20 week scan at noon instead of 7 pm - woohooo! Getting ready for that now. Good thing I have the day off work although I could have refused their request. Wish me luck!
