Natural Birthing Plan

who has a natural birthing plan? What method of child birth are you going to use?

My husband and I had our first bradley class yesterday and I loved it. I've also been reading about hypnobirthing lately too.

Also, what made you decide to birth naturally?

I like the idea of a water birth, but I've only started to think about it the last few days. I try not to think that far ahead for fear of stressing myself out!

I am not necessairly all full out with natural birthing, however my OH and I are doing the hypno birthing, even if it helps to keep me calm on the run up before the actual birth, it will be helful, however if it gets to the point where I want medical intervention, I do not see myself as having lost out if I do.

Oh and I am not having a birth plan...The first thing that happens to a birth plan, is it gets torn up! Whatever hapenes, happens.

I personally would love a waterbirth but so far with all previous 3 I have yet to get that wish. With Morgan I had a breech birth so no real choice in having one not that I knew bacxk then about them. With Mia I almost did but she decided to arrive quicker than the filling pool. And with Rosa someone else got to the pool first lol.

All three so far have been drug free though, not quite sure how because I almost cry when I stub my toe, so keeping my fingers crossed for this last time

You're right, whatever happens happens. but it's not always within your control, if you are birthing in a hospital.

for me, it's really important to have a birth plan in writing for the doctors and nurses I'll be working with. That way there is no question about what I want, and how I want my labor. I don't want to be given something in my IV without being told, and I don't want someone to use a vacuum extractor when it isn't necessary. I've seen women in labor get taken advantage of because their bodies are already going through so much.

I am hoping for a water birth, I don't do needles very well so pain killers and epidural don't feature for me. I have read about hypnobirthing but I think a well chosen cd of relaxing songs could be just as effective with some candles and dim light.

A written birthing plan is a very good idea. I think it is important for your birthing partner to have a copy as well so that they are aware of your wants and needs should a situation arise where things get taken out of your control. The advantage of a birthing plan is that it can be written in your own time, when you are able to fully consider things, and you can cover options for different scenarios, including what you would like if you needed to have an emergency c-section or assisted delivery. Having a plan is also good for you when your head is elsewhere, especially during labour when your mind is occupied with breathing through contractions, it will help you to remember things. When its all there in writing the midwives would have to have a very good excuse to deviate from it.

Its good you have given thought to this already, I have already written drafts of mine and started packing my hospital bag lol.

I'm starting my hypnobirthing course in feb which is a complete turn around as before i fell preggers i was adamant i wanted an epidural otherwise i wasnt doing it! im going to try for an active birth and maybe give the birthing pool a try, my birthing plan will be very adaptable and i will take pain relief if needed but hopefully i wont need it.

I am hoping for a homebirth this time around, so I guess that is probably considered very natural, as they don't even offer gas & air for homebirths here! I am hoping to use hypnobirthing, tens and water as my pain relief.
I decided to go for a home natural birth this time, as last time when I went into the hospital, I was given pethidine without my consent, right when I was at transition and I was completely out of it when my daughter was born and she was also very sleepy when born. I want to be really with it when my baby is born this time, so I can feel that great empowerment that comes with having given birth naturally.

Thank you girls for your feedback!! I would love to be able to do a water birth, my husband is too scared and if he's nervous, that isn't conducive to my relaxation, so I'll try squatting or other birthing positions this time around. I have always wanted a natural birth. =)

We're planning on a home & water birth.

That is, if it all works out that way.
I want to stay up and active for as long as possible, maybe bouncing on the excersize ball and then get in the birthing pool.

Im excited!
