Can I use a playpen instead of a crib?

I found this playpen with a bassinet that holds up to 30 lbs. Is there any reason I can't use it instead of a crib until baby gets close to 30 lbs? I really think this is a great idea for me b/c I want the baby in the bedroom with me until she is 6 months but also want to be able to have her sleep in the living room when its not nightime (my bedroom door frame is too narrow for a crib to come in and out and most cradles only go to 15 lbs). What do you think? Anything wrong with this idea?

Hi! I plan to use a very similar pack n play as a basinet as well! I also want baby in our room for at least the first 3 months (maybe longer) and hate the idea of buying single use only items so this just seems like a great solution. The pack n play will also be our travel crib, used when they're older for naps in the living area, and Grandma will probably be getting one at her house as well for baby to sleep in. I think it's a great idea! I've read that the new Graco Pack N Play with Newborn Napper systems are great for newborns, all of the reviews I've read said that baby loved them and slept better in there than in the crib (helped with acid reflux and collic).

Hi, my friend used one of these (it may even be exactly the same) for both her kiddies. Part of it vibrated as well, she said it was fab to settle them when they were tiny! x

For the exact same reasons as you, (wanting to have baby next to my bed, but in the living room during the day) I am getting one of these, which baby is good for until they are 12 months old.

That Hammock is lovely HippyMumma!!!

This is the one we're registered for:

I believe the top basinet area handles up to 15 lbs, the lower portion can handle up to 25 lbs.

We have something very similar for our room and we have a moses basket for downstairs am not totally happy about carrying the moses basket up and down the stairs in the morn/night iykwim and we have quite steep steps.....we do have a cot too which was DS` but I feel far more happier using the travel cot and bassinet thingy in the early days!

I think its a great idea! Unfortunately I tried that with my boys, and they didn't like sleeping in it, they both preferred the crib. But if it works for you, I say go for it!
