Abdominal tightening/pressure

Hi Ladies,
Its been a little scary. I have been feeling a tightening sensation in my abdomen for the last 3-4 days. It occurs 3-4 times a day, lasts for 15-30 seconds and goes away. Its not painful but a little uncomfortable and starts around my navel and feels going a little down.Yesterday I felt it at least 5 times mostly when I get up from a sitting position or walk quickly. There was no tightening at night though. I also have some pain in my stomach, especially when I am on bed. I am starting my 20th week today and this is my first pregnancy. Any suggestions?

I presume they could be braxton hicks contractions. Basically just your body practicing for labour.

Thanks ladies...
Is there anything I should do about it? I am alright so far today. I got permission to work from home Monday onwards. Do you think there's problem in climbing stairs? Our bedroom is on the second floor

Yes Braxton Hicks. I've been getting them for a few weeks now. It is worth mentioning it to your MW or doc because when I did, she thought it might be a UTI which can cause them, and it was so I had some anti biotics. Having said that I am still getting them and she said not to worry. They can be quite intense - the first one I ever had when I was pregnant first time around caused me to faint! When I came round I was 'what WAS that?'

Just don't over do things. If you get them a lot, you must stop and rest. I found they are worse when I am at work and on my feet or out and about and my doc said that is ok, but means I need to sit down and rest for a bit.

I just called up my gyn's office and they said it sounds normal but asked me to get a urine test done for UTI, just to rule it out. So I'm going for that.
