They should be given vouchers that can't be used on cigarettes or alcohol!

Oh, but then that would violate their human rights!

In the us they give Cards that can only be used for certain grocery items. But if these things are paid for there is extra money left for smokes and drinks... It just makes me sick that people abuse these benefits while others could use them to make a better home for their family.

why is everyone assmuming they're on benefits? they can spend their money on what they like, including cigarettes. aslong as their baby is fed, watered, clean and clothed.. who is anyone to say anything? even if they are "struggling"! some women "struggle" yet still spend money on their hair, makeup, clothes, gym, social life and other things that aren't neccessities.. i doubt their be such uproar about that. no it's not ideal but as an ex smoker, i never used to spend anything on myself except to buy my cigarettes and my daughter never wanted for anything.

I think that was sarcastic.... well I hope it was

This really bugs me too, I work in benefits and sometimes get people calling crying and shouting saying they're not getting enough money to feed and clothe their kids and that it's MY fault their kids are starving. All the while I hear them puffing away on a cig! Really annoys the life outta me!

Now, I used to smoke but I would NEVER in a million years have smoked if I didn't have enough money to put a nappy on my sons bum or a meal in his belly. If people want to smoke, fair enough, I ain't gonna judge them but when it comes down to buying a pack of nappies or a pack of cigarettes, they should not be parents.

xxx

The problem is though, they were saying that they couldn't afford the nappies but were still smoking. If you have enough money to smoke and treat your daughter then that's fine (I done the same with my son, last post) but they seemed to be choosing one over the other - that's the issues xxx
