So back at 13 weeks I had a threatened miscarriage and was tested for infections as urine showed high levels of infection but all test cultures came back clean and normal. Im a biomedical scientists and so work with all the tests that were carried out on me. Doctor gave me canisten pessery even though no signs of fungal infection. I had no pain or symptoms other than blood and discharge. Anyways im 18 weeks and yesterday the same thing happened and now Im on a high dose of two antibiotics as they are unsure what is going on and then the midwife nicked my womb and now im bleeding alot as a result. Im now worried about baby as they only checked heartbeat on doppler but I have a doppler and so knew the hb was there. I wanted a scan for reasurance as my next scan is not til 16th sept. I asked a lovely nurse how quick it would take to book a private scan and she said she would see what she could do. They have invited me back today at 2pm for a free scan which Im very grateful for but cant help wondering if they will sex baby for me if they can. I dont want to push the subject as really I just want to know baby is doing well but would love to know or get a glimse at baby sex organs. Do any of you ladies think I will get to know or had similar experiences? I worry all the time and feel like I should complain to my GP about his appauling lack of treatment first time round. I have to have an additional consultant appointment too just to discuss the situtaion and am worried that the infections, (yes plural) the midwife thinks I have could have caused unnecessary complications for me or baby. I hate my GP for this and tried to tell him I should've had antibiotics but he didnt deem it necessary. Even my senior management were appauled at his decision and they have decades of bacteriolgy expertise behind them. Luckily they are very understanding about this and are very supportive of my situation.
hi hun, i cant offer any advise about the infections but just wanted to say try not to worry too much about the dr/midwife using the term threatened miscarriage, it sounds really scary but its just a term they use for any bleeding during pregnancy.
i was terrifeid when i was given a threatened miscarriage leaflet after i had been bleeding, it calmed me down alot to realise that its not as scary as it first sounds.
good luck and i hope everything goes well xx
I hope everything is ok with the baby, please update after your scan and good luck x as for the sexing, i had a scan at around 15 weeks because I had some bleeding, by 15 weeks the sex organs are usually visable but she didn't tell me because that is not what i was there for, but also I never asked. Im sure if everything is ok with baby if you then ask them they will tell you.
GET A NEW DR!!!! if possible that is. This is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. This is your body and your baby and just b/c they happened to make it through school for their "degree" doesn't mean they're qualified to give you the best care if they can't take their job seriously.
Good luck on the scan and fingers cross for the sex of the LO!!!
Big thanks for all the support yet again over my situation. Baby is fine! Im still showing signs of bleeding etc but im sure it will go soon. The head sonographer and trainee doctor both did US on me and niether could sex baby as it kept legs shut. Im just pleased all is well and will just have to wait 2 weeks for the sex. Babys head circumference is 6cm, got a measuring tape and made a circle to see its size, i cried, so cute! Any way all seems to be ok so fingers crossed and thanks again to u all. X
