Sharp pain in upper belly and difficulty breathing?

I had to leave work early today because I was having pain and difficulty breathing. You know how, some days, you just feel like someone has pumped your belly full of air and it's tight and sore (is that due to gas, moving/stretching of organs, or both?)? Well it started out like that this morning, except I felt it much higher up than normal... like between my boobs and belly button, up under my ribs near my lungs. Eventually, I couldn't take a deep breath anymore for the pain and I wasn't able to stand/walk for long periods of time. The pain was sharp and I could only take shallow breaths, and I had to sit down for fear of passing out. Finally, someone took me to the OB/GYN floor of the hospital (I work at a hospital) and a lady checked me out. She said my blood pressure was good and the baby active. However, my heart rate was high and irregular. She gave me a cup of water and made me sit for a while, and pretty much said there didn't seem to be anything wrong with me obstetrically and if I kept having pain and difficulty breathing for another hour, I should think about going to the ER. I also had bad pain/cramping in my right collarbone area. Anyway, I ended up calling my mom to give me a ride home ASAP. I'm feeling better now. If I feel bad again tomorrow, I'll go to Urgent Care.

Anyone have any clue what this was all about? My hubby is freaked out and I'd like to hear that maybe I just haven't been eating enough, or drinking enough water. Anyone else experienced anything like this?

It sounds like gallstones? I've heard of women in pregnancy getting them! But midwife also told me a pain in the upper abdomen could be a sign of preeclampsia but as ur blood pressures ok I'm unsure the fact she said your heart was 'irregular' would make me go to ER but then they may be because u were in pain! If you feel worse again get to the hospital its always good to be checked out if your unsure google the gallstones though xxxxxx

Katie, I just wanted to thank you for mentioning the gallstones thing. I put off googling it until now because it sounded unlikely, but what I just read describes what happened 2 days ago pretty eerily. One thing I didn't mention in the original post was that, after the abdominal pain calmed down some, I had weird pain/cramping in my right shoulder (kind of felt like the collar bone area). This is mentioned as a symptom of a gallstone attack online.

Anyway, I might go to urgent care at some point now and get an abdominal ultrasound done to see if we can find any gallstones, because from what I hear, the attacks just get increasingly worse if you don't do anything about it.

Thanks again!
