20week Gained 2lbs since beginning.. Am i panicking for no reason bout weight gain ?

Hi ladies

I am 20+4 weeks and since the beginning i have put no weight on until i got on the scales today and gained 2lbs.

I have had weight issues in the past and i am panicking about putting on weight even though i know i have to with the baby/placenta etc weighing a certain amount.

I think its the baby/placenta thats the 2lb cause i have not eaten any more than usual in the 20 weeks.

Can anyone give advice of weight gain at this stage etc?

Worried i am going to become a heffer lol

Thank you

Kate xx

You are not going to become a heffer! But yes, you more than likely are going to gain weight. Even if you gain nothing other than "baby", there's the baby, the placenta, the extra blood you'll have, etc etc.

I've gained 11 lbs so far and my Doctor was VERY pleased with that. It's no where near too much. Obviously your 2 lbs isn't too much either. Please try not to stress about your weight. You ARE going to gain. And it's okay. You'll lose it again!!

I think you def. need to gain weight during your pregnancy. I can't imagine not increasing my food intake. I know I am always hungry. I understand your worry about becoming too heavy, and am sure a lot of women share that, but weight gain is necessary for a safe pregnancy. If you breastfeed, you will rapidly lose weight after giving birth. The women I know who BF got back to their pre-pregnancy weight after about 3 months. Don't stress out over your looks too much; just remember you are doing this for your baby.

You can do some research on this yourself, but I'd also like to point out that humans have a huge amount of biotoxins accumulated in our bodies, such as DDT (even those of us who were born long after the DDT era). These toxins can't be expelled and are stored in our fats. If you don't gain enough weight, or eat for the baby as well as yourself, more of these toxins will be passed on through digestion of your fat to your baby.

I hope some of this helps and you feel more comfortable with weight gain

I've not put on a pound yet??? But I have stopped drinking wine and am eating better so I think I've lost and gained at the same time!!!

I think 2lb in 20wks is pretty darn good - you do not need to worry, you have to gain weight at some point!!

I'm about the same amount pg as you & I've not put on anything yet but know I'll gain lots in third tri like last time. I put on 3 stone approx & had lost it & was back in my prepreg skinny jeans in 12 weeks, probably less. You've got to put on weight really, other than in VERY rare cases, but as long as you keep your diet balanced & fairly healthy you will gain what you need to & lose it quickly, you dont have time to stop with a newborn - it'll fall off

Xx

welll i put on 2 STONE during my first pregnancy, and I was all baby, no extra weight was really gained anywhere lol needless to say within 2-3 weeks i was back to my (pretty much) pre pregnancy weight, back in my pre pregnancy clothes, and i didnt have to work to get it off at all.. i think 2lb is a miniscule amount if im honest as your weight even when not pregnant fluctuates a few lbs above and below your average weight, so i wouldnt worry hun.

it doesnt really matter what you gain or loose, unless its drastic, what matters is that bubbs is healthy. if your midwife becomes concerned then its a different matter but untill then.. RELAX!

You're going to gain weight hon, there's really no way around that. Very few people get through pregnancy without putting on a few pounds. You're not going to become a heifer, you're pregnant. There's a reason for the weight gain. It's necessary in order to have a healthy baby. I didn't gain anything until I was about 22 weeks. I've gained about 11-12 pounds at this point in pregnancy. I had some major weight issues in the past as well and it's taken a lot of work to accept that I will gain weight, but it's for a greater good. I do still have my bad days, but I'm becoming at peace with my body and what it needs to do in order to give our LO the best head start. I'll worry about dealing with losing the weight after the pregnancy. I suggest you try to do so as well and just relax and allow your body to do what it needs to do.

If you fear that your weight issues are going to be a cause for concern during your pregnancy then I HIGHLY suggest you speak with your midwife/OB about this, so that he/she may offer some help in that realm (maybe counseling).

That is a very small amount in 20 weeks, but every woman is different and as long as you and baby are healthy thats what matters Try not to worry about the weight gain as something bad, it is for your baby and it will come off when you are done with your pregnancy! I have gained 20 pounds and I am almost 25 weeks, my doctor is 100% happy with everything in my pregnancy and I have asked him about my weight gain and he doesn't see a problem so far! It is hard to see the pounds come on, but I remember it's for my little girl and I will work my little butt off after she is born.
Hope you aren't feeling too down!!!

I only gained 1 lb while I was pregnant with my LO because of health complications....but if I had my choice, I would've rathered gained more weight, carried longer to term, and had a healthier baby. Of course she is healthy now, but I had a horrible time with my health when I was pregnant and I just do the 'what ifs'...
