What your doctor mentioned is called obstetric cholestasis. Did she order bloodwork to make sure your liver is functioning properly?

As for the itchiness, there are prescription meds that can help or you can use OTC anti-itch creams (just don't go crazy with them, too much can be harmful to baby). I've heard that taking a bath with cornstarch can help too. There's a sticky on this topic at the top of this forum that has a lot of good information.

i have exactly the same thing and mine started at exactly 16 wks. went to the doc and i was told 1) to use warm water to bath or shower. 2)moisturise my body every 4 hrs. so i changed my cream to jergens ultra healing and i also use body oil. i use the jergens and then the i use the oil and it has relieved the itching a lot. always moisturise just before going to bed and as much as possible during the day. Hope this helps.

You can take antihistamines while you're waiting for your blood results to come back like piriton/benadryl/piriteze etc in pregnancy. They stop your body feeling itchy.
I have to take them every day for dermatitis and if i don't i get exactly the same thing, itchy all over and when i scratch my back etc it comes up in big red lines, ugh!

Hmm, not entirely sure what that is, mine goes away after about 20 mins if i leave it alone, but maybe you have it very severely?
Hopefully your blood result will give your doctor/MW some idea of what it is (and like others have said, it could be OC), otherwise make sure you see your doctor again to find out what else it could be.
In the mean time, definitely take an antihistamine and see if it helps the redness at all, it will definitely help the itching though

In the meantime invest in some Oilatum. I had eczema as a child, and I still have occasional itchy bouts. I am aggravated by all sorts of things they give you for itchiness - including E45, simple creams and acqueous solution. Oilatum is just heaven. A few drops added to the bath is really soothing, and I use the shower gel which leave my skin feel like it's all new. I also have times when my usual shampoo causes me problems, so then I swap to the Oilatum shampoo which just makes my scalp go aaahhh! BTW I don't work for the brand IMO it really is the best thing you can get hold of. Obviously something that good it is not going to be cheap, but drs can prescribe it. I had it on prescription until I was 16. Do try the bath oil if you can.

That sounds a bit like eczema to me. If you type eczema into google images, does your stomach look like that? Your skin does become more sensitive from the stretching to fit baby in. It could just be that your stretched skin has become itchy, or you may now have topical allergies to toilitries or washing powder.
