Cervix feels open? Anyone with advice/experience?

Hi guys,

I checked my cervix the other day. It felt much more open than usual, so much so that my index finger fitted inside the entrance....

Called the labour ward and they said as I'm less than 20 weeks I'd have to go to A&E, which I'm not sure I can face as the dept is incredibly slow and can't face a 10 hour wait...

Anyone else experienced this?

Many thanks x

Surly it's better to be safe than sorry ... pop down to A & E. I hope everything is alright

Thanks. Was just wondering if anyone else had noticed it and it turned out to be nothing? X

I wouldn't risk it. If they've told you to go to A&E then that's where you should be. The triage nurse might decide you need to be seen quickly, or you might have a long wait, but you should definitely get seen. I wouldn't want to do nothing and then find out that I should have gone in and got a cervical stitch or something.

I didn't realise I should be checking ...

I doubt you will have a long wait, they'll probably priority you through. My hospital has it's own maternity day assessment unit (like A&E), so it's not normally too long a wait there

yes hun i had this, took a trip to the assessment centre in maternity wards and she explained that theres an entrance to the cervix both ends - a ring of muscle just where the water sac rests, then the tubey bit, then another ring of muscle (the bit we think of as our cervix) she said with me, and commonly with second or more babies, the cervix can open a soften a little at the outer end but the inner ring of muscle still holds firm and thats the important bit however, if this is your first and even if its not, go get checked just in case. better safe than sorry. and youll probably get scolded for examining yourself like i did! good luck! xxx

Me either :/

Might sound stupid, or naive.. but .. I wouldn't know WHERE to check.. like obviously "up there".. but I do'nt know which bit is cervix to be honest..

I won't go fiddling incase I accidently open it or anything, knowing my luck lol!

Go to A&E honey.. the wait is worth it, rather than being sat at home WORRYING for 10 hours and THEN going down to A&E anyway.. xx

You're not even supposed to have your PAP test done while pregnant ...
