Fizzy drinks - what are we allowed?

Just wondered what everyones thoughts on fizzy drinks are?

Before i was pregnant i didn't really drink alot of it, more milk, fruit juice etc. But these days i seem to want it quite often ! I'm trying to avoid drinking loads but i think i might be craving it!

I know they say you should avoid it because of the caffeine - but i heard there are certain ones that are ok - anyone know which ones? And if diet/normal makes a difference?

I don't drink any hot drinks (tea coffee etc) so it's not like my caffeine intake is huge...

There is the whole aspartame debate so it depends on your views on that.

I personally drink Caffeine free diet coke because I aint fussed about drinking aspartame. I drink Irn Bru as well. x

Carbonated drinks are bad for your bones and therefore not best for baby's bone development so try not to drink them very often at all. I only drink them if I'm out with friends as I drink juice too quickly so it's something I can sip that lasts me quite a while.

I drink Mirinda (it's like fanta), sprite, fanta etc. I try and avoid Dr Pepper and coke as they do have caffeine, but drinks like sprite and fanta don't.

I don't drink much water either, more of a milk and juices type of person. I don't drink them often anyway, probably once a week or so.

I heard that a large amount of fizzy drinks made the pH of your blood ever so slightly more acidic than it should be. I'm not sure how true this is, but since I heard that I stopped drinking any fizzy drinks, this is even before I knew I was pregnant. I'm also worried about my teeth and wouldn't want the fizzy drinks to make them bad x

Soda is fine in moderation according to most health authorities, you just need to keep an eye on how much sugar and caffeine you're taking in. Most sodas don't have a ton of caffeine in them and it would take 5+ cans to exceed the recommended 200mg daily limit, but they do have a lot of sugar (or artificial sweeteners, in the case of diet sodas).

Artificial sweetners are unhealthy and it's actually better to drink the normal versions than the diet versions. The ones they use in drinks are bad for your brain. I've never drank diet fizzy drinks since finding that out
