Concerned - Lower Back Pain

Hi ladies,

I hope someone can put my mind at rest or help me figure out what this is. Since Tuesday I've had quite bad backache which is always on my lower right side. It's not a stabbing pain (otherwise I'd have gone to A&E) but an 'annoying' pain IYKWIM?

It's kept me awake every night so it's taking me a couple of hours to just nod off and then I'm woken up a few hours later with the same problem. I've not taken anything for it until today and I've had a paracetamol which doesn't seem to be touching it. Swapping from standing to sitting or vise versa is giving no relief and massage only works at the time of doing it.

It does ease off during the day at times but I'm like a walking zombie with broken sleep Should I try and see the doctor asap or is this normal pregnancy backache?

Thanks x

I woke up with a lower back ache the other day too....it was more on the right side than left and it made bending and moving very painful. I figured out it was either me sleeping badly or perhaps the way the baby was laying as on weds at my 20 weeks scan he was transverse. Its finally easing now. Pregnancy is a wonderful thing where you get many, many aches and pains and very limited ways of dealing with it.

If the paracetamol isn't helping perhaps try some heat.....hot/warm bath...heat pads and if it continues there's no harm seeing the GP just to be sure.

One thing I wasn't doing and this being my 6th pregnancy I really should know better is I wasn't supporting my back properly when sitting. I found it really did help when I started to make sure I kept a pillow/cushion in the small of my back when I am sitting.

Hey

Hey hun, how far gone are you?

I have this exact pain, it started in my lower right back a couple of weeks ago and i have now been diagnose with SJD - Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction which is very simluar to SPD - Sympathis Pubic Dysfunction.. Its all one bone but your back part is where is aches.. If physical activity is making it worse! Please stop and see your doctor.. I thought i was fine and just had a bit of normal pregnancy back pain but i was wrong.. Not saying this is it as im no expert but what u are describing is exactly like mine so i would adivise u to see your doc.. Some women get it really bad and i am riddled with it and have had to take my Maternity Leave a month earlier then i wanted too

Hope you find out what it is.. You can read up about it more online if u type in the full name of it
Hope this helped xx

Hey. I'm 18w2d. I've heard of SPD and SJD so I did consider it. I will be going to the docs as soon as I get chance just to rule it out thank you. I'm already taking leave early because of my awful sleeping as it is so I've only got about 6 weeks to go. Thanks very much for replying and I will check it out x

Hi
I've had backache since before I got pregnant, but this last week I've been in agony. I think mine was due to twisting in a funny position and I've pulled/torn a muscle as it's starting to ease now and only hurts when I move.

Best to get it checked though. I was told by my consultant that I could take cocodamol but only the 8mg/500mg ones that you can buy over the counter. And obviously only take them when I really need to.
